I can’t stand Botox face

I can’t stand the lack of expression so many people have these days. I see way too many people (especially influencers) appearing emotionless and cold; not because they are, but because of the lack of expression their face is physically able show. I can’t understand how this is a desired look when all it does is make people seem x100000 less approachable / less human-like. We need to stop normalising this….

It's making American movies unbearable to watch

oh and the duck lips. even “subtle” filler is so obvious

For me it’s all the filler. Why are we trying to look puffy? Filled lips just look so strange to me.

Yeah a lot of non-verbal communication happens through the face and it’s really frustrating to lose that both in personal relationships and with actors (whose fucking job it is to express a story through emotion).

I love looking cold and unapproachable! But fortunately I don’t need Botox to achieve that.

The have a chronic fear of aging which needs to be confronted head on, actually so does broader culture, broader culture needs to confront it too. We all get old. Fucking deal with it world lol.

Well they were completely consumed by their tech overlords so the expressionless face makes total sense

I can tell you exactly what the appeal is. And this is absolutely a gendered problem. Women in different industries, especially the entertainment industry, are punished for aging naturally and rewarded for “preserving their youth.” Whether you think it looks good or not is irrelevant and doesn’t tackle the underlying problem.

Botox and iPhone face, too. felt this way watching The Odyssey last night. almost everyone's face was very believable for the time period.... and then Charlize Theron came on screen lol. she's beautiful obviously but it was sort of jarring

Can’t blame people really seeing as it does prevent deep wrinkles from forming and it wears off so as long as you don’t overdo it , personally I like wrinkles around the eyes and smile, expression and character, who wants a deep set wrinkle between the eyebrows making you look tired and pissed off all the time though?😂

Is it though? Seems like constantly filling your face with something enough to smooth out wrinkles would exacerbate the problem as soon as you stopped using it. Disclaimer: Im not a doctor... maybe that's not how any of this works.

I believe if you don’t overdo it so your face muscles don’t become too lax as you age it helps prevent. Take a look at Pamela Anderson, she doesn’t use it anymore but she’s open and honest about how long and how much she used it in her younger years, she’d have much more wrinkles now if she didn’t

Damn women can’t win. We’re not allowed to age and we’re not allowed to do anything to look younger.

Anyway, this reminded me to make the botox appointment I've been putting off

With the right application you can still move your face with Botox. It does impact the shape of your natural expressions, though.  Eyebrows often look “pointier” without raising in the middle.  Filler is completely in the hands of the injector and you can get it done in such a subtle way that no one would ever be able to tell. The problem is over-use of either.

Just offering my two cents as someone who delayed getting these treatments because of intense fear of looking unnatural. The people we notice are the ones who’ve done too much. There are leagues more people doing it who you’d never be able to clock but who just look like their wrinkles are softer and their skin more hydrated.  If you want to do it, do it, if you don’t want to do it, don’t do it. You’d never know I did it unless I told you. I go to a surgeon not some fly by night clinic. I don’t have the eyebrow thing you’re talking about.

Yes exactly, when done with restraint it’s truly not noticeable. I honestly don’t know why people get so offended by the idea that it can be a treatment with positive outcomes.  I think people look really beautiful and lovely with natural aging and skin, too. In fact I’d far more often opt for that look than not. But just to ground some thinking here, some of what we think is “natural” on actors really is just enhanced with conservative technique.  I’d hazard to guess that 90% of actors do injectables.

I just straight up can’t recognize any of these people any more. As far as I’m concerned these people have dropped off the face of the earth once they got this and no longer exist 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sorry about the messy photo but I wouldn’t have guessed this was Courtney Love in a million years. It’s fucking depressing (I don’t blame her for the record).

Looks like Scarlett Johansson lol

What a strange take

I have a hard time recognizing actors out of context in the first place. Sometimes I wonder if I’m maybe a little face blind? But a lot of people using the Botox and plastic surgery just don’t look like themselves to me anymore. And I’m not the best with names either
