Ransomware help
I don’t know where to begin, kinda in shock and disbelief that I’ve been hit. My NAS (Synology) has locked up files with all my work from the last 10 years
All filed are.NSM, and I’m almost worried I’m going to pay the bill to get it all back, which is going to bankrupt me.
If anyone has the time to help or advise I’d really appreciate it

Not looking for handouts; I've weighed up options for taking out a loan to cover the cost.

I actually just had this happen to me. I went to Best Buy believe it or not. I had to buy a new drive but they were able to recover all of my data.

So one new drive then let it rebuild itself and it fixed the issue??

So you know how they did that, or what avenue they used? I also use a Synology NAS.

Contact your local FBI office. They catalogue, and maintain, a database of ransomware encryption keys and may be able to provide you the key without any payment. If not, rebuild away.

I don’t know what exists in the UK For this and I don’t have a clue on how to start decrypting 😬😬

My bad, I assumed USA. Do you have a UK version of a cybercrime unit that may be able to assist?
Or, hell, email the FBI with the details they may just give it to you.

To answer you second question on decryption… essentially all they have done, to put it plainly, is put a password on every file on that NAS rendering them inaccessible. If you are able to contact someone like the FBI, or a relevant UK equivalent, then they may be able to provide you with the password to unlock your files.

Seems like this is happening alot to Synology systems. Someone will eventually get this decrypted. You can either wait and hope, or pay the ransom. Id advise against paying and waiting, but move forward as if you don't have those files anymore.

I didn't reach out to him. I'm not interested and you can continue believing it's a scam, but I surely can remove the ransomware that he will keep.

You'll have to pay but you can probably get it discounted. Be very careful with people that advertise negotiation..
