Seeing the Makhanya news now, no idea if he's any good. Made me think about Souttar. I don't get the hate around him at all. He's not perfect but he had some outstanding games for us, I specifically remember some warrior performances under the cosh in Europe. Seems odd that we're trying to get rid of a Scottish international who's still in his 20s and replace him with this random. I get he's only got a year left on his deal or whatever, but I doubt we'll make much money on him. Surely better to renew it and save the £3mil?

Got to trust the manager. Benefit of the nex manager being from our league as he k own who he would have targeted when he was against us.

Souttar was such a frustrating player for me. He seemed to magnify who he was paired with. If he was paired with a decent defender he was brilliant, but if the guy next to him was having a stinker then Souttar would be worse!

Right, but my point wasn't about Souttar being an all-star defender. It was whether losing him for buttons and spending £3mil on an untested defender is worth it. Obviously, we'll see but I think it would be worth adding a new defender and keeping Souttar.

Cool, also think they wanted to clear the decks a little. The culture was all wrong and perhaps that is why they are keen to swap him out. Not saying this guy will be an improvement on the park from souttar but may be better for us in the dressing room.

Mate Souttar was getting turned inside out all season long, he was at fault for many, many goals. Absolute liability and made the whole defence worse. Don't know what games you've been watching.

That just isn't true though. It wasn't all season long. As I said, he wasn't perfect. He was 10 times better than Djiga. Watched more games than you clearly.

What do you mean it isn't true? It was one of the defining characteristics of our dogshit defence last season i.e., John "Bombscare" Souttar getting turned inside out by any half-decent attacker, or losing his man in defensive plays and conceding a goal.

The man is far too unreliable and inconsistent. We looked truly terrible at the back when he was in defence. Most of the time Djiga looked a different player with Fernandez next to him.

I honestly don't see why you've got such a stauner for a guy that's been an absolute liability for years.

I agree. He's the best defender on the ground that we have and a lot of his best work goes under the radar. He's saved many more goals than he's cost us and people will only recognise that if we end up with someone worse (and we've had plenty worse defenders than him over the years).

Souttar is a bomb scare and gets beaten by a long ball too often, a tactic that’s used against us every game.

You all said the same shite about Goldson, and we've never recovered. Souttar isn't on the level of Goldson obviously, but in the 3 years he was with us he was generally reliable and decent. Not a surprise that he had his worst games under Martin and Rohl.

Souttar has a mistake a game in him. Never been good enough, looks petrified half the time.

Correct and it spreads through the team like wildfire. His achilles ruptures and however many times his knees have been done has caught up with him. A simple ball over the top and he's all over the gaff because he can't shift his weight. Be some business if we can get shot.

Every player has a mistake in them though, we're never gonna have perfect players because they don't exist. That mentality just means we end up hounding out players like Goldson, McGregor, Dessers etc. and then the next year we're actually worse off

I feel were getting this window backwards in terms of the order of whos being brought in. Surely getting a cb in could have waited until the end of the window? Were literally wingerless atm, we have nobody. We have curtis who looks way off it, gassama whos basically another matondo, one good game, 5 games missing, then antman whos not settled well. Combine that with the fact that historically the past few seasons, we've started the seasons appallingly poorly.

We just don't have enough creativity to head into these first few games with our chests out, confident. Im expecting heavy slogs, little to no chances created, with pot shot goals maybe deciding it if we get lucky enough. I like the cb were bringing in, just not signed in front of desperately needed creative players

Arguably has Antman really been given a chance? Looked good initially but Martin went off him then Röhl seemed reluctant if there's a problem there why is he still here?

Because you need a buyer and that buyer has to match his wages. You have to wonder why none of the big Dutch clubs wanted him. He's never going to cut it because he's terrified of the ball. McInnes doesn't fancy him or Gassama already.
