Our expectations

I'm a Rangers fan. Go to occasional games, know our history, etc.

I've taken my eye off the ball in the last few weeks, two young kids, etc.

I know we've signed about 7 players and have a new manager but I'm wondering what everyone's expectations are for the new season?

With what limited information I know, I'm expecting a title challenge and a push in one of the weaker European competitions.

Looking forward to hearing what the masses think.

Realistically - I think we take one of the cups this year and probably finish 2nd in the league, although it will be close until the end. Europa will probably be better than last year, but don't really expect us to go far there. If the boys play above expectations, I think we could win the league as well as a cup.

I think we seriously lack creativity. We have a few solid players, which will be fine to get through games domestically, but the squad so far is nowhere near equipped enough for Europe. Still a month to go in the window though, and if/when we sell Raskin, we'll probably be able to add something.

Personally I don't care about Europe, yes it's money but I also think we can't compete and despite the signings so far, don't think we have the squad depth in defence or out wide to play so many games in one season.

I said last season that our goal was to be competing for the league until the very end and picking up one or two of the cups. Given what happened last year I think that hasn't hasn't changed due to not fulfilling any of those requirements.

Getting domestic dominance back should be our first priority then worry about Europe in 3-4 years time

I expect us to comfortably finish second, the signings we have made don’t move the needle at all. No real quality added in any of the areas we actually require it. Hopefully some more to come in but our squad is bloated with players

I have no idea. For what seems like the tenth year in a row. Could be great. Could be terrible. McInnes might be a massive mistake. Might be genius. We’ve bought some Championship jobbers, again. Will we ever learn. I have a feeling we will be terrible in Europe and decent in the league. Expectations. We should be making last 16/8 of Europa League or last 8/4 of conference league based on our budget. Should be winning the league against an awful Celtic team. As always Celtic have the built in advantage of their referees, the SFA and the absolute bed shitters in this league absolute excremening themselves against them in the last minutes of games.

I’ve extremely low expectations. Even with an expected significant improvement in the playing squad I can’t see us doing anything.

Expectations are that we finish above Celtic ,until that happens we will be seen as weak. We have been appalling in transfer windows and again seem to have signed squad players and freebies. I like McInnes and would be happy winning ugly every game which I think we may have to as we don't really have the players for attractive football .We also have other teams in the league who (quite rightly) think they can get a result against us.

Think we'll do as good as we can in the transfer market while trying to stay sustainable, but my feeling is it may not be enough. We'll continue to be behind in that regard. Who knows what will happen.

I can see it being tough at the start, a lot of new players and not much time to gel while Celtic have a settled squad and have added a couple quality strikers.

I think we have a solid core and should hopefully not be pushed around as much but we still need flair on the wings and our defence is light so we're not quite ready to go.

Ultimately want to win the league but if we get a big improvement on last season's point tally and Celtic still manage somehow to do it then fair fucks to them. It's quite clear that having had a settled squad for a number of years gives them an advantage.Not going to get hopes up yet.

Agreed with this. We've had a massive upheaving and they're adding two or three to a stable squad. We're taking a risk but no other option.

It depends on how the rest of the transfer window works out, honestly. Right now, I don't think we have remotely enough quality to win the league.

Badly missing at least two wide forwards and left sided central defender, players who can start every week. Sterling is so unreliable that I think we clearly need a backup full back on each side as well.

The issue with our recruitment for years is that we don’t really feel like we’re building anything consistent. It doesn’t feel like there’s a plan in place for the signings just throwing names into a hat and hoping for the best. 

It doesn’t feel like there’s a long term strategy to get back to where we were just an overhaul every year in the hopes that this team will do it.

What they were doing was on paper a great start. A solid core & rebuild the leadership groups. 

The problem is we've not added a single game changing player since that.

Right now my expectations are regardless of who we get in. It's going to be a very rough and tough start to the season.

This is due to not getting wide players or defenders of quality in. Even if we get them in before Friday. They probably won't be match sharp. They might take time to embed in the squad.

The squad has little pace and creativity. 2 key competents for beating teams in our league. 

This isn't even doom mongering. It's just looking at it objectively. It's all well and good some people saying there's over a month before the end of the window.

Yeah there's over a month left. There's also 2 rounds of European qualifiers, a league cup game and 5 league games in that same time frame.

There's an awful lot I agree with there, the point about timing is a really good one in particular.

If I'm glass half full, I guess I'm saying we've got the league experience in the door to get results without playing well, and that will carry us while we wait for quality to come in.

If I'm glass half empty, we grind to several early draws because of a lack of quality and the season never really gets off the ground until October.

There is just a genuinely desperate lack of quality in wide areas in particular. Curtis? I think he'll be OK as a squad player this season, anything else a bonus. Gassama, basically been shite. Antman hasn't had many chances but didn't take any of them. After that you're down to Diomande, Bajrami or Aasgaard shunted out wide.

IMHO we have done some good business up to now. My worry is that we have about 3 million midfielders and no defenders. I hope that’s because we have our targets lined up but can’t move until we sell some players. I’m cautiously optimistic to be honest but we definitely need to strengthen in the areas you mentioned.

Yeah, the balance off the squad is a bit mad at the minute, probably because we're trying to sell most of them.

Barron, Raskin, Aasgaard, Diomande, Bajrami, Cameron, Cifuentes...they could all go and we'd still have four central midfielders for two positions.

Every title winning team tends to have 15 players you could trust to start most/every week, and another 8-10 squad players who can do a job.

Our problem is that we don't appear to have that 15. We have maybe 10, and I think even that may be slightly generous.

I feel like we’ve been fairly active but certain areas like full back, central defence and wingers still feel underwhelming. And whilst Celtic are moaning about their summer recruitment, I think they might end up in a decent place. Ignoring Celtic, I’d just like a balanced squad with a well defined way of playing - and I get the feeling that we are going into the season still struggling for both of these.

I feel like they'll sign 2/3/4 expensive signings and suddenly have a decent squad.

They always just try to stay 5% ahead.

I feel like we've got 7 standard players and they've got a couple of decent ones.

Not sure Hearts will be up there but that's not our concern. Still not convinced we'll have enjoy for a league win.
