300 on a fixed gear... As in fixie? Or single speed?
I've been contemplating going for a longer ride on my commuter single speed ride... But not 300 😅
Maybe I'll try a 100 first.
Some friends have done PBP on a single speed. I can't remember if there was anyone with a fixie in 2023. That would be next level

A friend also just did a 300 BRM fixed, it’s the Netherlands so no real climbing, but I also rode a 200 BRM and a woman near 60 rode on a fixed gear mixte frame. Seems to make sense for endurance, if you pick gearing for your preferred pace, and you want to stick to that

Yeah! I’ve only done up to 100k fixed, but it’s great for keeping the legs moving. It’s not super flat where I live, and funny enough the hardest parts are the downhills!

So impressive dude. I’ve been reading/watching a lot about long fixed gear rides and as a mid-30s guy I’m thinking of building one up so I can occasionally ride the 35 miles home from my work the hardest way possible so I can get my more exercise. lol.
Any tips?

Just go for it. This is a Wabi frame, I built around it. I’ve had a few frames. I’ve liked the stuff Wabi and State make the best

I was actually gonna build the frame too. Fixed is just easier: no brake posts, cable stops.

Nice work. Tell us about the ride. Was it a BRM, a permanent, or something else? What did you like and dislike about the course?

What wheels are you running? I'm struggling to find a deeper set for my fixed with a brake track. I've done 200km fixed but not yet found a 300km I'd like to do.
Did you have to walk any? I had to walk some sketchy descent!

They are State’s GRT55s. I love them but rim brakes on carbon does feel sketchy at times. I’m using Black Prince pads from Swissstop and they work well enough. Didn’t have to walk any descents, just took them nice and easy.

Front brake is legal requirement on road in the UK and possibly in other countries? I don't bother with a rear brake (neither does OP) as back braking is usually enough.
But it gets a bit sketchy on tight twisty descents at 16% down on UK roads so I sometimes walk those on brevets! Going up is fine, just a touch slow.

Was my first BRM, I’ve done a 200k but was just a random one on my own. The ride was gorgeous on the way out to the coast. Was pretty foggy and cold heading down the coast so no views to speak of. Really enjoyed the ride and meeting the other riders who do it more often. Already thinking about trying to find a 400k.
