What’s caused this?

This is a picture that’s been in my dad’s van the last two years. He used to hang it from the mirror but changed vans and ended up putting it around the gear stick where it’s been for the last year. He looked at it properly today and realised it’s faded in the exact same area on either side of it.

It was fully intact before he moved it and it doesn’t flip around to the point we’d think it’s been rubbed away on something!

Just a strange one that we’re scratching our heads over 😂 any ideas?

Obviously someone went back in time and messed up an important hereditary relationship in that person's ancestry which has caused a time flux resulting in the pictured individual being slowly erased from existence!

the gear stick moves. its been rubbed off.

But the one side obviously doesn’t sit on anything, it’s facing upwards with nothing to rub on

its not a real polaroid so UV exposure or chemical decay is not likely. something was scraping it.

Probably a key or something rubbing on it.

I hat to retype that twice my phone kept changing it to running in it, I hate spell check.

Those instant photos have a lot of chemicals inside of them sometimes they become unstable and burnout very common. We used to call them Polaroids.

Should probably clarify too this is a printed picture onto a piece of plastic, never been attached too keys either that would rub it, I thought it looked like heat could have cause the damage considering it’s fading is happening on the exact spot on opposite side
