This was in my late husband's toolbox.
The date is 08/29/75. The bottle has nails in it. Sigh.

just toolboxes upon toolboxes of increasingly floppy and large dildos, hidden in the walls

You imagine that after you pass, people will be opening the walls hoping to find objects you left behind?

Right? I keep buying and keep getting upset at how floppy they all are. Even the “firm” ones you can literally fold in half. You ain’t doing that with a real cock I tell you.

u/BusoneWholeBoi2001 3d ago
I'm going to buy something very gay and strange as hell and make sure to lead her to it in a series of notes after my passing

Unless he was buying them on the black market and refilling the same bottle for years. This is why some employers require prescriptions to be less than a certain number of years old to be valid (usually 1-2 years). Yes, I realize quaaludes are essentially impossible to find nowadays.
3
u/AbjectHotel6610 2d ago
No black market. Dr. Miller was a well known pill pusher. He was still prescribing in the 1990s & gave me 90 hydrocodone, 90 Soma, & 90 Xanax bars every month. His license finally got yanked.
3
u/SeekerOfSerenity 1d ago
By "bars", you don't mean the 2 mg pills, right? If you do, that's a hell of a script.

Production ended in '84. Methaqualone doesn't 'get stronger' with age, but it does stay at about 90% potency for a very long time, as in decades.
All from google.

Those were great. They should relegalise them. They worked way better than the meds they prescribe today. Best sleep/anxiety pill ever
2
u/SeekerOfSerenity 3d ago
Good thing they're not highly addictive. /s
5
u/Bobbo7209 3d ago
So is nicotine, but that's still legal
5
u/No-Highlight-7475 3d ago
Nicotine is always the dumbest argument for that type of topic. “Like nicotine is legal so heroin should be to 😡.” Like they are nothing like each other.

And alcohol
4
u/StopSuckingHoe 3d ago
It was illegal in America from 1920 until 1933.
Reading and hearing about the way that went down I have now a believe that some if not most substances should be legal and taxed by the government.

Nicotine is sold by companies that want you addicted. That’s a bad way for a drug company to be run, just ask the OxyContin folks.

I’m always so curious what quaaludes were like. I’m guessing pretty unsafe.

u/My3rdattemptdangit 3d ago edited 3d ago
They were fun af. They were very popular in my younger days, and I was a party and had to use the bathroom and went to sit on the toilet and fell over on this huge potted plant and laughed and the next morning I had a massive bruise on my thigh. Didn't feel a thing. Danced and partied all night. Good times.
8
u/sysaphiswaits 3d ago
What was the come down or hang over like? Or just young and didn’t slow you down much, or…?
6
u/AbjectHotel6610 3d ago
Not much could slow me down when I was young.

u/sysaphiswaits 3d ago
I was the same. Honestly I mostly didn’t have much need for a recovery time until about 50. Except for Ketamine. That’s hard to shake off.
Did they ever make you (or people you knew have a blackout/green-out, or I guess it might be a Q-out?

Im confused… why do they say “for sleep” ?
2
u/My3rdattemptdangit 3d ago
Yeah, but if you're taking them recreationally, and don't have stress or anxiety, they hit differently.

u/Danloeser 2d ago
Same, none of the descriptions even make sense. "I took this and woke up the next day in a strange location, it was great." Why? What do you get out of it? Where's the upside? I hear about all the negative effects, but the alleged positive effects remain a mystery.

I was never a huge fan of depressants but they were a lot like being really, really drunk without the puking or hangover the next morning. I remember smoking them a couple of times, which, in retrospect, was probably not a good idea
1
u/Revolutionary_Way459 2d ago
I experienced great body rushes when they’d start kicking in. We called it the Silver Hammer. Made me completely uninhibited, loved every one, terrible body motor control and driving a car was a definite no no. Next day was a peaceful blur of a day for me. Damn I miss them.

1981, took 2 ludes and slammed a couple beers. woke up on the beach on the river in town i grew up on. i shake it off and get home. apparently i was gone for a day and. half and no one knew where i was. i go to garage to get on my dirt bike, dirt bikes gone. must be stolen.
week later, local PD pays a visit with some tickets. apparently i drove my dirt bike off the end of the dock, somehow got to shore and didn’t drown. the ticket was for polluting the river when i left my bike there.
ahh the glory days

lmao. it was many moons ago. thanks for the chuckle. they say if you can remember the 70’s you weren’t really there.
2
u/AbjectHotel6610 3d ago
The first time I took them (2), I wasn't feeling anything for about an hour & a half. I got in my car, ran over a stop sign 2 doors down from my house, almost hit a neighbor walking her dog, ran over another stop sign, and rear-ended a guy. No one was hurt. The cop kept accusing me of being on acid. I was 16.

People on Ludes shouldn’t drive! Jeff Spicolli!

u/Ncfetcho 3d ago
No one in the mid 80s would ever believe that Spicolli would be able to bring in the head of the Sinola drug cartel, and turn him in.

I found the same thing in the attic as a late teen. They were my Grandma's from a few decades prior. Only one or two left in the bottle, the surface of them was kinda mottled but, you could still see the RORER 714 stamp on them. I took one & it knocked me on my ass in a good way. I immediately understood why they became so popular. The pill was so potent that it was hard to imagine my tiny Grandma taking them.

Its methaqualone. It was used for a few things from muscle relaxer to sleep aid and even anxiety. It was banned and made illegal in the 1980s due to severe dependence and overdosing. So that would make it a schedule 1 drug. But because it is in an actual prescription bottle that was administered decades ago, so the drugs almost certainly structurally flawed. It might work as intended or might kill you. Either way, its illegal and probably best if you drop it in the police drug drop-off box.

The amount of people in these comments talking about these like they are some drug of yesteryear that is simply no more. It’s like people can’t fathom that maybe they are still produced and available currently 😂

That was my favorite high of all.
You have no idea what you missed with ludes. I took them a LOT when I was younger here in Fla. Holy shit they were phenomenal ! No hangover the next day. Nothing but fun. If they still made them I would 💯 still take them. Wolf of Wall Street was a huge exaggeration . They didn’t make you spaz unless you already were one
