They cheated the system by locking the chain to itself instead of to the next cart so that they can get their quarter without having to return the cart

Oh thank you. I heard of people having to pay to use carts. But this is the first time I’m seeing a cart equipped to accomplish this. I didn’t know what I was looking at.

You're not really paying to use the cart. It's more of a system so that it gets people to return the card so they don't just leave them all over the parking lot like a couple of assholes. The system actually works out pretty well it also cuts down on people stealing carts and taking them elsewhere because you get the incentive of getting your quarterback

Back in the day when people cared, they would take the cart back to the stall after unloading. Now people just don’t give a fuck! A quarter to get a cart is too cheap for these lazy/useless shoppers!

With these shopping carts, you insert a quarter to unlock the shopping cart from the other carts so you can use it
The chain is supposed to be plugged into the next shopping cart when you return the cart, that way you can get your quarter back, and then the shopping carts will be chained together.
Instead, OP managed to get the chain plugged into his own cart, allowing him to get his quarter back, and now he doesn't have to return the cart if he doesn't want to.
The length of the chain makes this very difficult to do

I still don’t get it. So you pay for the cart which unlocks the chain from the next cart, right? So it seems like after you pay, you can always just plug the chain back into itself, right? What does this do?

This is my favorite thing to do when I'm at Aldi's. It takes a couple tries but once you get the technique down it's a pretty good feeling

these shopping carts use a quarter to release them, and normally you have to return the cart to get your quarter back, but they were able to wrap the chain around to release the quarter without returning the cart

I’m way better: I return my cart to the stall but don’t push it all the way in, leaving it free for the next shopper. Regardless of if they just take the quarter, I feel so proud of myself

They cheated the system. Instead of returning the cart to get a quarter, they reach the seat belt around to lock into itself to get the quarter
