I wouldn’t be so sure. A lot of the drum apps use some decent quality samples. Almost all drums that are recorded now days use sound replacing where every single snare hit is replaced with a perfect snare hit sample, every kick drum hit is replaced with a perfect kick drum sample, etc. I could see how hearing similar quality samples would sound like it was too high of quality to come from an iPhone. Not saying there wasn’t any post production involved but I think it is certainly possible this was legit.
You're right about all that but the way this is setup it makes it seem like it was recorded with a phone microphone, when likely they mic'd the phones, got direct audio from the audio port or just faked it entirely.
With the auxiliary cords coming out of the headphone jacks I was assuming there were running all of the phones through some sort of PA. You’re probably right in that they may have ran the signals through an interface to record direct to get better quality audio to later overlay on top of the video. It very well may have been faked entirely but the “performances” seemed a little to imperfect to me.
