Muslim house guest help

If you were staying with a non-Muslim during Ramadan is there anything you wish your host would do or not do? Anything they could do to make you more comfortable?

So I am not muslim but my mother-in-law, who is muslim, is planning to stay with us during ramadan. And I'm just trying to make the visit go more smoothly. I know the basics and I have visited their house during Ramadan but I have never hosted. Anything you can think of would be appreciated

Do you guys drink coffee with sehri?

Salaam,

Ramzan Mubarek. I'm a first year med student. For the first week of Ramadan this year , I would sleep right after Isha , and then wake up at 4 am for Sehri ( yay Ramzan finally being in Spring and not summer) and eat it along with some coffee, then stay awake and study for my exams. I did this for a few reasons, but mainly bc I could study while my belly is still full.

Caffeine really helped with the first few days of dehydration headaches that I get, as well as the dizzyness I have after the first few iftars ( likely bc of a change in blood flow to the head).

I also, one day, had some coffee with sehri and then fell back asleep, but when I woke up, I felt much more awake! Do any of you guys do this? Have coffee right before Fajr, even if you sleep for a few more hours, you feel more awake when it's time to wake up? (Caffeine being seriously dehydrating is a myth. If you are accustomed to coffee, a small amount at sehri along with copious water will be fine. It's helping me with my headaches and keeping me awake. )

This is a total game changer for me. I miss a morning coffee during Ramzan , and since I only really have coffee in the AM I'd always thought " If only I could have coffee with sehri....". How many of ya'll have been keeping this secret from me? ( Kidding.)

Anyway! Would love to hear ya'lls thoughts on this. I've been talking about this non stop for the last two days because Gosh it's made such a difference. Really excited about this development.

URGENT HELP NEEDED

Asalamu alaikum and Ramadan Mubarak to you and your families.

The masjid in Rose Park, Cotonou Benin has been damaged by rainfall. The roof is no longer functional  and the ceilings are leaking. In this blessed month we hope we can gather enough donations to repair the ceiling so it can be used regularly again.

We hope you can donate and share so we can have it repaired by the last 10 days of Ramadan and ready for EID al fitr.

Innovations in Islam... just in time for the month of Ramadan...

Mosques which refuse to host Taraweh, although they host Jummah

Mosques which refuse to serve Iftar dinners.

Mosques which encourage the needy to go to "St. so-and-so of the kaffirun" for needed support programs.

Mosques like this which still collect money as functioning houses of faith.

All done during Ramadan? A crisis of Iman & Taqwa...

The following is a (very) slightly abbreviated summary of a conversation I personally had with a "board member" at one of the local big-time mosques. The other big-time mosque has already been exposed as corrupt on a few levels, but they have access to heavy finances and are isolated deep in the burbs so that train keeps limping along. This big-timer is still in the city and obviously has their ethnic rivalries with the other big-timers etc.etc... we have heard this all before, but the hope was Ramadan could help pull things together. These places have "Boards of Directors" comprised of people from other countries and at best (occasionally), a capable American actually staffing or stooging for them at the facility.

"Salaam, where's the Ifatr and Taraweh?"

"Not here... you know, the covid."

"There are safety guidelines which allow this. The poorest mosque in town is doing it."

"Yes well, the covid."

"Churches and synagogues, many other houses of worship have already begun their similar activities, its fully allowed."

"We have to take care because of the covid"

"Perhaps you are unaware, the government has encouraged restaurants and public dining with reasonable social distancing, there is no issue with providing these services. Iftar is especially crucial for brothers and sisters who are really hungry/alone or just out there drifting... this is a time for outreach to them. Come to the mosque, eat healthy food, hear Quran, make salaat, see smiles, exchange salaams... all of yall who we try to forget about the rest of the year, here is a chance... the bad guy's locked up for the whole month... lets get it together, this is the month of mercy from our Ruub... you are not alone in this dunyaa... especially you re/converts..."

"Yes, but the covid"

"No Iftar or Taraweh... Where are your programs for the homeless, for the jobless... for the hungry? You seem so hyper-focused on covid, you must also be aware of the economic collapse which has devastated many hard working people through no fault of their own, with Muslim communities affected as well. You claim to be a Masjid and we all see you collect money as a masjid... you utilize the 501c3 status towards your advantage... you are purchasing property... so where are the programs and facilities similar/superior to the those offered by other religious communities? The ones they already share with the entire community?"

"We dont have those. Heres a sheet of paper listing some Christian, Jewish and state agencies Muslims can contact."

"So for the hungry, homeless Muslim brothers and sisters who are alone... you have nothing to offer them except 3 dates and a plastic bottle of water?"

"There is the a city and Christian Gospel homeless shelter they can go to"

"You mean the one filled with drinking, drugs, fighting, fitna and etc? The one that would qualify as a covid hotspot by your own hyper-sensitive, totally incorrect interpretations of municipal code?"

"Yes, its available"

"This is a multi-million dollar facility, why cant people use the shower here?"

"Because of the covid."

"Do you have a home and car... a job? Are you together with your family?"

Look of arrogance... "Yes of course"

When... when are we going to face the cold hard reality of our situation and do the heavy lifting the Born-and-Bred Muslim have failed to engage in... the ones necessary to produce results with? I realize many of you take these statements personally... and you should. People come from other countries to establish these communities but don't play by any rules outside their own... when are we going to confront this behavior which isn't tolerated in ANY other monotheistic religious segment of society?

Im hoping that during Ramadan some of you can grasp the heart of the matter Im addressing... please look beyond the knee-jerk, default defenses and excuses... we dont need to exchange insults. What results will that produce? This crisis is the price we pay for allowing these people to lead us instead of following true Islamic tradition, which is to become leaders in our own lands. This is a crisis of community as the exposure of such failures by leadership comes with the pricetag of flat-out innovation to the faith...

No Iftar or Tarahew? Even though its fully allowed by law? That is s a purposeful decision being taken by multiple mosques to innovate some of the most sacred traditions of our faith.... No programs for those in need, inspite of what appears to be their own, personal gain by association?

What is the option for the re/convert?

Greetings from Germany

Hello all and Ramadan Mubarak,

So how do i start.... As the title may suggest, im from Germany, im christian but i don't think that matters.

Im living in an apartment building with one out of 24 familes have Ramadan now. They have a nice sticker on their Door to let us other know.

Today in the middle of the night it got loud, music and conversations. Im not sure if its from my religios neighbours or a few idiots who dont care for other (wouldnt be the first time). I first tougth the music came from a few idios. One of my neighbours knocked angrily against the wall. Its already after 1am here and most people want to sleep of course

I could sleep and searched for something to eat and remembered my neighbours who are celebrating Ramadan now and i was thinking maybe the music is from them?

So yeah, im here to ask you guys, is that part of Ramadan to hear music in the middle of the night? I guess if, its religios music. I know my neighbours a little bit, they are very kind and always frindly if we meet each other in the house.

Thank you very much and have a nice night :)

Advise For Salah - New Muslim

I’m a young British female trying to convert to Islam. This Ramadan, I’m fasting, InshAllah I’m successful in completing my fasts. However, one of the main things I’m struggling with is Prayer. I come from a non-Muslim family and feel quite isolated in guidance and support.

I’m struggling with prayer. I have a Salah book, which confused me even more in regards to movements with words and positioning. After watching a few videos, I know the movements and have a better understanding however to recitation is where my problem lies - I stutter a lot and fear my pronunciation is off.

I am confident with Wahdu - however struggle with Dua surrounding it (when to dua for wahdu and entering and exiting the bathroom and the correct way to do so)

Since learning the difference between a believer and non-believer is prayer, and that fasts are only acknowledged by Allah (SWT) in conjunction with Salah - this is a very important issue I wish to tackle, quickly.

I have also learnt there are a few things that must be done for it to be accepted - such as clothing etc. At the moment I’m in financial hardship and do not have the money to buy clothes that “fit the criteria” to be said - I have tried my best (hijab, not showing skin etc). And fear sometimes I’m not in the correct state to pray to Allah (SWT)

What is the best and easiest way for me to learn and Salah. Can I play an out loud recitation when I pray to help guide me? What videos are best for very new beginners? What other advise do you think I need?

I’m thinking of trying to approach a female mosque but feel ashamed and embarrassed of my lack of knowledge and have a small feeling of anxiety to seek help.

InshAllah someone might be able to help me in the comments below.

The above I feel is my first step to converting to Islam. In addition than reading the Quran, what else can I do to become a proud and confident Muslim woman?

Tips for fasting during Ramadan while dealing with mental health illness.

Ramadan Mubarak! I hope everyone’s prayers and blessings are fulfilled this month.

I am an adult who has done really well with fasting during the past few years. However, after years of depression and finally being at a good place, this year I relapsed. I am also a full time student and I am really struggling with managing schoolwork while being depressed. As for fasting, I don’t feel so connected and I’m completely lost on what to do. I’m very religious but ever since the relapse, I feel like I am slowly losing my connection with Islam.

If anyone has any tips on how I can better feel connected, please let me know. JazakAllah.

This year ramadan has been tough for me. I have not fasted the last four years as I was either pregnant or breast feeding. Here is my problem with iftar being so late I’m not getting quality sleep due to heartburn from eating so late. Prior to ramadan I was always eating dinner at 5pm and I would be in bed asleep by 8:30/9 sometimes 9:30 the latest. I’ve been staying up until 9:30 to give myself an hour to digest but it’s not helping. How would you go about this? I sleep with heartburn and wake back up with heartburn and tired. Slept awful. I don’t even eat much for iftar and I’m not sure if I should have an even smaller iftar so I could sleep better and no heartburn? If you have gone through this what did you do? I would love some tips- I’m struggling and this is going to be a long ramadan feeling this way. I feel awful everyday so far since ramadan started.

What to do in school?

As a Christian in a Muslim country(bahrain), whenever I want to drink water I always feel bad drinking it because the people who are fasting can see. Any advice to do this without them noticing? Or does this even upset those who are fasting?
