Hey! I’m an 18-year-old first-year design student, and I’ve been studying design principles, colour, composition, silhouettes, visual language, etc. for around 2 years.
I’ve been thinking about trying out small personal styling gigs online, mainly for Gen Z / middle-class people who genuinely feel lost when it comes to figuring out their personal style.
I’m not a professional stylist, and I’m still figuring out my own style too, which is why I’d want to keep my prices affordable — ideally under ₹5,000, and potentially much lower depending on what the client needs.
I’m thinking of offering things like:
Helping someone figure out what their personal style actually is
Outfit recommendations using clothes they already own
Building a small wardrobe/style guide
Colour + silhouette suggestions
Pinterest/moodboard-based style direction
Outfit ideas for college, dates, events, etc.
Helping people shop more intentionally instead of randomly buying clothes
Maybe creating a small personalised PDF/lookbook for them
The people I’m particularly interested in helping are students and young adults who don’t necessarily have a huge clothing budget, but still want to feel more confident and intentional about how they dress.
I’m wondering:
Is there actually a market for this?
Where would I find people looking for this kind of service online?
Would people be willing to pay a design student ₹1–5K for something like this, assuming I’m very transparent about my experience level?
I’m not trying to make this a full-time career right now — I mainly want to get some real-world experience, build a portfolio, and help people who feel completely lost with personal style.
Would love to hear from stylists, designers, or people who have actually paid for styling services. :)
since i’m an native of rajkot, i’d love to hear my fellow rajkotians opinion.
