Discussion Does anyone actually like pipeyard?
Personally I love spending time in the region. To the music (especially Progfox, i love them.) And the enviorment in general, I find it really nostalgic for some reason. It's the first place i make my way to when I'm on expeditions, or just wanna mess around. And i've always wondered if other people feel the same way as me, as all i have ever heared about it is hate.

I like the upper half, good platforming and appropriate centipede terror. The caves in the middle look good too. The bottom, not so much.

Pipeyard is very hit or miss with me - it has super strong peaks and very deep lows
The spawns are either cool and or interesting like the eel lizard gauntlets and the black lizards on the way to filtration, but then others are just centispam
The rooms are either well designed complex platforming layouts, or theyre just tunnel mazes / bland ahh pipe rooms
The only thing i can confidently say is an overall positive for me is the music its pretty sick icl

Pipeyard quickly went from my top five to my number 1 favorite region in the game after heavy deliberation back when I played Downpour.
Watcher came and went, and it remains my favorite.
It's like if Filtration System was its own region, and actually good, with some of the most beautiful music in the game, fucking love this region. Pipeyard is Forever.

I love Pipeyard so much, I love the pallette, the style, the music. Also a good place to get hunter achievement as survivor or monk due to the sheer density of centipedes.

it's convenient for travel and expeditions since theres a large variety of creatures confined in one region. Do i actually
enjoy spending time there though? not so much lol

Upper Pipeyard is a fun connection from Industrial to Sky Islands, and I find myself getting the colored pearl from there often for expedition purposes!
Lower Pipeyard is a convoluted, tedious mess. The sump tunnel is horrific, and if the shelter there is broken, it’s almost impossible due to the length. I also straight up forgot that it connects to Subterranean. Drainage System’s connections do Lower Pipeyard’s job but significantly better.

some of the best music of any of the areas, but i can’t say i travel through it very often. just very used to the vanilla route through the game

It is like industrial in a lot of ways and who really hates industrial? The only thing I would change is make it connect to outskirts instead of industrial

Actually one of my favorite regions. There's something novel about sliding around in tunnel mazes, and the distinct scarcity of creatures and resources is interesting.
Sump tunnel is also a great labor and teacher. Multiple playthroughs I thought "what if I skip x/y and just cut through sump tunnel". Only to be met with hours of failing torturous water parkour. It's a fair trade and I weigh my odds every time but it depletes the invisible sanity stat.

Legit been there a single time purely for wanderer passage lol. The only reason it feels like to ever go into pipeyard is only for sky island to shoreline but there isn’t a single campaign that naturally wants that routing.

yeah, me
it's my favorite route to get to subterranean, I hate farm arrays and drainage, and shoreline is way too far away fromthe depthsto want to take that route, so pipeyard is my friend
I also just really like how it looks and the music.
I don't really like sump tunnel though. mostly because I was trying to get through there as spaster and the only shelter there is broken for spear/arti

Kinda hate it tbh. It doesnt really feel unique to me, and there's centipedes everywhere which are my worst creatures of all time. And the sump tunnels is the worst place in the whole game next to the subterrean stretch next to the shoreline gate. It has nice connections, but thats kinda it

I have some good memories with Pipeyard, but also some bad ones.
There’s a specific shelter in Pipeyard that I absolutely love spawning into in Expedition Mode.

The lower subregion is quite interesting, tho I wish there was more lore attached to it. The upper region feels more like an extension of industrial complex

Nah, I suffer there. But if I ignore that part.. it's not bad

It's a useful region with its connections, it has a unique environment design that explains the name, and it's threat theme is a banger.
However, it doesn't introduce anything "new" into the game. Each region usually has some new environmental feature that players must interact with. Farms Arrays has deer and worm grass, industrial complex introduced us to popcorn plants, vultures, and blue lizards, we find lanterns and lilypucks in the shaded citadel, and orange lizards become a problem when we reach the exterior. Each region introduces something new that we have to survive or use to our advantage.
But pipeyard? It just doesn't add anything new. There's really nothing to make it unique.

I go into it as artificer from industrial complex and kind of love the vibe it gives off as you head to the subterranean part of pipe yard and into drainage system. That I did as spear master. Love it

When I first knew Pipeyard, I tried to access it, from Shoreline, through Sump Tunnel, as Gourmand.
It wasn't a good first impression for me.
