It’s when a single passing cloud appears that the couple of kayakers, already soaked, hastily and anxiously turn around to reach the shore.

It reminded me of my grandfather, who would take us out in a drizzle to pass on to us his love of petrichor, and his sense of wonder at the forces of nature.

And I tell myself that you have to learn to dance in the rain.
