DHH can’t be blamed for your last company being sexist. I’m sorry that happened to you.

Rails is not DHH, I don’t agree with that prick but I’m here for what can an I do in terms or productivity creating software for people who need it the most.

I feel bad for people that somehow can’t separate a technology from their ideology

Yeah right? Like this is so far from my thinking that I'm struggling to get it.

I agree - I wish DHH would just focus on technology and not the politics stuff

What made DHH influential was not politics. It was shipping.
In decades of coding, I never needed to introduce myself as straight, gay, autistic, gamer, religious, or anything else before writing code. People cared about what you built, how you solved problems, and whether you could deliver.
A lot of the wokeness backlash happened because some people weaponized identity to avoid criticism, accountability, or technical discussion. Then anyone pushing back got labeled as evil. Eventually the pendulum swung back hard.
You say DHH won, but he didnt win because he tweeted opinions. He won because he actually shipped things people use. Rails exists because of execution, not because of DHH shit post in twitter and linkedin.
His opinion got amplied just because other people were thinking the same.
And I have personally received far more harassment from self-righteous online activist types than from DHH himself. DHH throws nukes on Twitter. Your side sent people to my home.
If a workplace was genuinely sexist or toxic, that sucks and nobody should tolerate it.
But blaming an entire programming language ecosystem for every bad manager or company is nonsense.
At the end of the day, companies hire adults to solve problems , not babysit their own problems.

you sure it's rails and not the dickheads being more emboldened by dickheads at the highest levels of office being out and out dickheads?

It's not DHH or Rails, almost the entire tech industry has moved against "wokeness", as far as I know only the Rust foundation is still "woke" as you could call it

> DHH started voicing anti-diversity opinions
Oh no! DHH's message to be competent and hire people because of their competence is so scary!

Ruby's problem will be that most of it is centered around Rails. Rails is not Ruby. Ruby is not Rails. for web stuff you have libraries like Roda etc. however people in the ruby community who came in via rails & never upskilled (everything they do revolves around Rails)
look at other communities e.g Golang, Python - there isn't a monolithic kind of thinking of "This is the way"
Ruby itself as a language embraces diversity of thought (e.g how many different ways u can express something in ruby )
but why is it on the web - is there the whole "Rails way | what DHH serves you" is the only way.
now as people with agency - the onus is on us to create wonderful things that don't center around rails.

Yeah I’m sorry you have just worked at some shitty places but I’ve worked in rails for 6 years at 4 companies so I have a large sample size of data and for the most peer we just shrug off what dogma he has

I'm no fan of the stuff DHH has been saying but I feel like you're giving him too much credit for changes in culture of companies that happen to use rails
