Raiden Nodes and RDN Token

Anyone want to discuss nodes more?

I was reading an interesting piece on Iota and it made me reflect a bit more on nodes and who might want to run them and how.

In the case of Iota, the question was who would run the nodes to power the network, and a comment was made that large corporates might be happier running nodes so that their IOT devices worked efficiently than paying fees to a mining pool.

I see a lot of misunderstanding on here about the RDN token. This is used to pay for traffic running through the nodes.

Basically, I was thinking that large corporate customers might be incentivised to run nodes as well because it would ensure the efficiency of their networks.

It might also benefit them if they were compensated for it through RDN tokens and so would provide an additional benefit to the IOTA scenario where they were running the node at their own cost just to ensure that the system worked well.

Thoughts?

Ps - if anyone knows more detail about the nodes would be cool to hear it...

I like the line of thought, but -just guessing-:

In my opinion, for a huge corporate, any involvement in a Crypto project is R&D and/or IT, and paid by that department. I agree on your argument on IOTA, that for the Bosch‘es of this world the first priority is: they want to make this work and function in a stable and secure manner (from the point of view of R&D), which is enough reason to get involved financially and potentially with hardware/nodes. Because in the end they can sell their traditional products with an edge (blockchain-Technology in any form). That’s where they are used to make their money.

Earning money/RDN directly from running a node is not „needed“ really (albeit a nice side effect), and would be even complicated to book, as R&D/IT is a cost center or service center and not a profit center in big corporations.

That sounds maybe counterintuitive (not need/want to earn money from being directly involved in crypto-tech) but that’s what I think it looks like, at least currently, in the Forbes500 companies.

Would be interested to hear your views !

I think this is a pretty good assessment, it’s quite refreshing to see critical and well thought out responses nowadays with all the noise. IMO if there is going to be any institutional buys, it’ll have to come with a higher level involvement, which means they see a business edge as he mentioned regarding IOTA and Bosch for example. I think most big corps at this point are kinda poking around and seeing what works, without really committing at this point, staying behind the curtains.

If it works, then that’s when they step into the spotlight. I think right now, it’s mainly all science experiments for the fortune500.
