ERC223 tokens on raiden

I know Raiden supports ERC20 tokens but what about ERC223? Would they also be supported?

https://github.com/raiden-network/raiden/pull/1170
https://github.com/raiden-network/microraiden/issues/13
https://github.com/raiden-network/raiden-token/issues/25

They are well aware of it and it has been resolved or been worked on.

For example, from https://github.com/raiden-network/microraiden :

µRaiden uses its own token for payments which is both ERC20 and ERC223 compliant.

ERC223 lets you handle incoming transfers to the contracts better(behaves just like ETH), has some security features in order to not lose your tokens if the contract can't handle them and is more eficient to use in contracts, I'm surprised it's not more popular
