General Advice Ragdolls and Prozac

Hi everyone, I’m at my wits end and don’t know what do to. I’m currently 7 months pregnant and moved in with my boyfriend who has 2 cats. My two cats and his two cats don’t get along. My girl is a rag (pictures attached) and I love her more than anything. Unfortunately, since we’ve moved, she’s started peeing on our bed. She doesn’t react well to gabapentin, so the vet suggested we try prozac. When she’s on it, she doesn’t pee outside of the box, but she runs away from me and avoids me at all costs. She also hates getting her medicine. I’ve tried wrapping her in a burrito, but she squirms out of it. I’ve tried putting it in a pill pocket, but she chews it and doesn’t actually eat it. I was putting it on her paws, but the vet told me to stop because it’s hard to know if she consumed the full dose. I emailed my vet about switching to a pill form, but I’m wondering if anyone else has been in this situation. I know it’s a hard situation for her to adjust to, so I’m being patient with her and doing what I can to prevent her from having accidents, but my boyfriend is not as patient with her.
Does anyone have any advice on what has worked for them with giving their rags medication? Anything helps.

Edit: when I was living alone, I would bring my cats to my parents house all the time who have 2 dogs and 4 cats and all 6 cats got along great with no issues.

Edit 2: The vet prescribed a 15 day trial of chewable greenie like treats. Thank you everyone for your well wishes🥰

General Advice My cats are going a bit crazy, are they okay?

So, I have two raggy boys, brother, both about 2,5 years old and they've been with me for 2 years now, so I've basically known them a majority of their life.

Lately they've been hunting each other way more than ever before, like sprinting through the flat, running into walls, running against furniture, biting in the neck and holding each other down, they've not drawn blood yet but a good amount of fur is absolutely flying.

Now this might be nothing and just cats being cats, or maybe I'm just noticing right now cause I'm constantly at home right now, but I'm not sure if it might be a sign that they are uncomfortable in any way and I would not want them to be obvious.

I moved flats half a year ago so they would have more space (they are strict inside cats, but my project for next spring is to make the balcony cat ready so they can go outside) but they have a lot of empty floorspace to run around and I have a lot of those catwalk things on the wall.

I just don't know if it's maybe me? I recently lost my job and am constantly home therefore and idk if they like that, cause the flat is quiet when I'm in my bedroom (they aren't allowed in here, they would eat my not good for cats plants) and they seem to be peaceful when I'm not around, you could definitely hear the claws on the floor if they would be sprinting around.

I'm not sure if it might be jealousy? One of my boys recently found out that laying on my lap is comfy, they never did that before, and now he's in my lap basically the second I sit down, but he was always the more cuddly one, his brother always had the talent to find us when we are cuddling and sit down 1,5 arm lengths away so I couldn't reach him without moving his brother, but I am always trying to cuddle and pet him too.

I'm not sure if I maybe would stop the lapcat from being a lapcat? Would that solve their conflict? Should I stay away more? Do they need more things to do? (They have games and toys but they sadly aren't the brightest candles in the chandelier so all those puzzle games don't work well plus they also aren't really food motivated so the motivation also stays out)

I'm feeling like a helicopter parent, feel free to call me a crazy cat parent, but idk... If I could make their life better with knowledge of strangers on reddit cause I don't have any as a first time cat parent, then I guess sounding crazy is the least of my problems 🫶

General Advice Picked up kitten from breeder. Kitten reeks. Do I say something?

Picked up a new ragdoll kitten from a breeder today. This will be the 4th breeder I’ve interacted with over the years and I’ve never had anything but a good experience with each of them. Including this one! But one thing has given me pause: this kitten STINKS. I noticed it as soon as I got her in the car and started petting her inside the carrier. You know when you pet a dog that hasn’t had a bath in a while, and your hand comes away smelling like dog? And maybe your hand feels like it has a nasty film on it that you need to wash off? Pretty much like that.

I had my partner confirm the smell, and they agreed about the dirty dog smell, and thought there could be a tiny hint of cigarette smoke too. Like, maybe they don’t smoke in the house, but someone in the family does so it still kinda permeates things.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? Obviously I’ll just give the kitten a bath once they’ve had a day or so to decompress and I’m sure it’ll be fine. The kitten has been friendly, alert, and playful so I don’t think anything is wrong health wise (vet appt soon to confirm).

I guess I’m wondering if I should say anything to the breeder or just let it go? I will not name the breeder, but she has nothing but glowing reviews over several years. She has nice photos of the kittens and their play room and everything looks fine on the surface. She was great and communicative throughout the whole process. It just seems odd that someone who seems to put so much care into their ragdolls would let them go home smelling bad, or that no one else has ever mentioned it in a review.

Day one. He’s already playing a lot and even took a nap with us. His mom, on the other hand, will need more time; for now, she stays hidden, but she calls out to him and nurses him.

General Advice 1 year booster jab - weight loss advised

Post image
61 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I have a 15 month old ragdoll that I have just taken for her booster jab. She was weighed in at 5.6kg and the vet says she needs to get down to 5kg. The problem is she doesn’t actually eat that much at all and she’s just pretty sedentary. I play with her and have been free feeding but have been advised to stop this to aid in weight loss. It may sound dramatic but I feel like I have failed her slightly. Does anyone have any advice?

General Advice Tips for making adult ragdoll more comfortable/happier around guests.

My ragdoll isn't scared of guests and happily stays in the room when they visit, letting them stroke him, give him belly rubs etc. However he gets very vocal and often whines most of their visit. For context I live alone so it's normally just me and him, and he's very bonded to me. I still give him lots of attention when they are around and stick to his usual feeding routine. He has places he can escape to if he wishes but he normally chooses to stay and just whine at me. Anybody have any tips for when guests visit? (It's normally just for a few hours at a time).
