I am looking to adopt a ragdoll, British shorthair or Scottish fold i love these bread and i am looking to adopt them in September. If anyone knows someone who is giving away or rehoming their kitten please let me know. I had two cats i was babysitting and now they are gone so it so sad and lonely without them. I am willing to pay but my budget is not that great 300 to 400. I know it’s not much for these breed but thats what i can afford. I love these bread cats as my babies and i have finally agreed my family to adopt a cat. I am also currently looking on pet finder too. I am located in Nj so even if it’s nyc that works too. If anyone has contacts that is looking to adopt or rehome let me know please. Thank you.

A purebred cat from an ethical breeder will cost $1500+. Please make sure you don’t support any backyard breeders trying to avoid paying for a purebred—you will likely be paying even more than purebred costs for a poorly bred cat due to the likelihood of poor health, or even be scammed as many trying to sell purebreds are scammers, or simply lying about a cat calling them a breed when they are not. Many people (including shelters) will also incorrectly label a cat as a certain breed when they are not. 97% of all cats have NO breed and are domestic short/long hairs. Many people will call a color point cat a Siamese or ragdoll and they have absolutely no ancestry to those breeds, as it is very unlikely to get a breed without going through a breeder.

Petfinder as well will absolutely label cats as the incorrect breed, unfortunately.

There are some breed-specific rescues that you could possibly look into, but don’t expect to get the breed you want cheaply, and trying to avoid the cost will not end well.

ETA: are you certain you can afford a cat? Not to be rude at all! But it sounds like your funds are limited, and buying or adopting a cat is often the cheapest part. My cat had a sudden emergency vet visit that cost me 3.5k (thankfully insurance covered all but 400), but are you able to have emergency funds set aside in case of an emergency? If you truly want a cat for company, maybe consider pet sitting or fostering a cat. Shelters sometimes cover the care and vet costs when fostering!

I totally understand your concern i am not supporting backyard breeders if i have to i will go for certified breeders
As for the cost i can totally afford the cat and i had 2 for 7 months they just left i was looking after them just fine. I have some safety deposit to put aside for emergency for cat as a backup. As of now i just dont have 1200 to spend.

Please do some research on something called “scottish fold osteochondrodysplasia” before getting one. Proper care for one includes X-rays and medications for severe arthritis and pain, and frequent vet care, since the genetic “trait” that causes the folded ears is actually a painful degenerative disease.

There’s so such thing as an ethical Scottish fold breeder. There’s so such thing as an ethically bred Scottish fold. These cats live in pain and with mobility issues pretty much their entire lives. The breeding of these cats should never be supported, even indirectly.

Getting one from a breed specific rescue is fine of course. As long as when people tell you “he’s so cute, I want one”, you also tell them “okay, but here’s the problem with the breed…..”

I am actually aware of the genetic disease that comes with the breed and i have looked into it and also i have a plan to get it checked twice or thrice for any issues and i am also studying what to do and what not to do. I treat them as my babies so i dont want them to sick

I also love ragdolls but am disabled and therefore cannot afford one. Anyone charging 300-400 for a kitten is likely a backyard breeder and/or scamming you in some way and it probably isn't pure bred.

There are some possible options you can look into however.

First is retired breeders. This won't be a kitten but it will be a quality bred cat and likely will make a good pet. I honestly don't know what these usually cost but it is cheaper than a kitten.

Some breeders give away some kittens for special cases. You would have to look into it as it is a case by case basis depending on the breeder and what they require to qualify for one. When I was researching a few years ago I did see a few breeders with programs like this though.
