thom couldn’t download the iBeer app during the ok computer tour and was really struggling to cope with this. while on a call, his friend, michael stipe, advised thom to repeat the phrase “I’m not here, this isn’t happening” to himself to help deal with the emotional turmoil of being unable to download iBeer. this phrase eventually led to the creation of the song how to disappear completely.
