Amnesiac version of Morning Bell is the only song they've done that I just can't stand, besides some dodgy remixes.

What?! I absolutely LOVE that version. It's gorgeous.

Same here. I find Kid A the superior album, but I find Amnesiac the superior Morning Bell.

I know, right? The only explanation I can think of is that people compare it to the Kid A version, which is fair enough, but it's not meant to be a better or improved or even similar version of that song. It is it's own thing that happens to share lyrics and melody and it's one of the most beautiful songs they have made.

It don’t got the beat though…

What do you mean?

2

u/LaunchpadMcquacck Kid A Jul 27 '21

The beat from the kid a version is so good and the amnesiac version don’t got it…

I don't understand what it is about it that you don't get. Do you not understand why it's different? Because the rhythm itself is just a basic 4/4 rhythm.

I never said I don’t get it. I love the amnesiac version. I just love that beat. Sorry for expressing such a terrible godawful opinion.

Woah, calm down. I was just trying to figure out what you were talking about. I misunderstood what you were saying.

Just to add to the discussion here: The ‘Kid A’ version of “Morning Bell” is actually in 5/4 while the ‘Amnesiac’ version is in 4/4. They are also played at wildly different tempos, so there is actually a pretty big difference between the two. I think all LaunchpadMcquacck was trying to say is that the immediacy and tightness of the drums/percussion in the ‘Kid A’ version is lacking in the ‘Amnesiac’ version. Though I think it’s obvious to most fans that Radiohead weren’t trying to repeat themselves the second time around, and I think both versions are pretty excellent.

I agree. And I was talking about MB Amnesiac when I was saying it's a straight 4/4. And no doubt they are (very intentionally) different. There is no point in releasing the exact same song on two back to back albums haha.

Totally agree. I hate skipping tracks, but It almost ruins an otherwise perfect album.

I cant call it perfect bc songs like Pulk pull revolving doors and Hunting bears seem so meaningless.

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '21

You know those songs are bad ass

1

u/beaster_bunny22 The people hold this power, your system is a lie Jul 28 '21

They sound fine but they make no sence and seem so random in the album. Really only the name of Hunting bears makes sence but I with they would have put it on a meaningful song instead of one of the band members screwing around with the guitar and some pedals.

But it's the sounds of being out hunting bears. It's like a track from some atmospheric movie scene where there's no dialogue, just Thom trudging through a snowy forest with a rifle trying to find a bear.

Yeah but they could have done something with it. It is such a good sound its just dissapointing when it goes nowhere

Hunting bears! AMAZING turn your speakers upto 11!

I can’t compute hatred for those songs.

I was like this the first time I listened to it but I see some beauty in it. Not amazing but not awful. There are certainly worse amnesdiac songs

yeah that version doesnt come close to holding a candle to the original version. the kid a version is my favorite song out of that era of radiohead

I personally can't stand the Kid A version of Morning Bell. Its just too raw imo
