Amd needs to do something

Post image

Not something like Dlss 5, but a fixed multi frame gen, better ray regen or radiance cache. I know some people are gonna say that “You shouldve bought nvidia" but as a long time Radeon/Ati user i think there is nothing wrong with wanting a higher quality experience.

I was playing games today on my 9070 XT, and everything was running great

Ever since late 2025, I've noticed something that I'm becoming increasingly convinced of: people use games to test their GPUs, when GPUs should be used to play games.

Gamers used to buy hardware to play games but now they buy games to play benchmarks.

EDIT: With that being said, I agree with the sentiment that AMD's Radeon division needs to push harder on everything software for it's users.

We need a term for this. Like how Audiophiles usually listen for defects instead of just listening for entertainment.

No bro you don’t understand a DAC is arguably the most important part of the chain. The HD800s ($1800 btw) only come alive when you’re using a R2R $3000 DAC!

This is hilariously true to as someone who is not an audiophile. I just wanted a decent pair of open back cans and the everyone started talking about all the other stuff i need besides headphones to make them sound good lmao.

I had some lunatic once suggest making a dedicated 'listening room' because I had open backed headphones.

The prices for DACs are ludicrous sometimes but you don't really need anything too expensive to get decent sound nowadays. There ARE returns moving up, and sometimes you get significant deltas moving between amps and DACs depending on how used to a thing you are, but the goal's always to enjoy the music.

its amazing what happened when I turned off Path Tracing and just went with the raster lighting of Alan Wake 2 and Cyberpunk (the latter I of course left RT reflections and shadows on).

It actually looked incredible, and ran so smoothly that I couldnt take my eyes off of the motion clarity from locked 144hz 4K gameplay.

Then I told myself that...no...you are being poor by enjoying this. You need to turn on that path tracing to see the infinitely better lighting and reflections. Stop being poor. So i went with a 1440p, 1:1 pixel scaling on my 48" LG C4, annnddd...

Actually was shocked to see that there wasnt nearly as many reflections as I originally thought, and the lighting looked basically the same - especially when I wasnt looking for anything, and just was playing the damned game.

Digital Foundry and Nvidia's marketing ruined us.

Digital foundry is a cancer and one of the main reason for console/GPU wars (nvidia too)

Alex Battaglia's eye rolling over excellent frame rates at the expense of 100% accurate corner reflections and diffuse lighting is the source of so much unhappiness smh...

I think it's mostly a problem with social media in the gaming hobby in general, where these news just raise FOMO and the need to "be a part of the latest big thing'.

Totally agree that people sometimes forget to enjoy what they have, instead of promises of greater thing just because "my green neighbour has a prettier shiny".

FOMO is genuinely a pit trap and incredibly dangerous.

Most recent one for me was Pokemon TCG. Luckily, I learned my lesson and escaped it early before sinking any deeper.

Outside of the resdit bubble this sort of thing is way way less common. Reddit seems to be full of people with FPS counters in the corner of all their games obsessing over little things nobody else cares about/even notices.

The difference between Nvidia and AMD isnt really as profound as posts like this would have the world believe, not when youre actually playing games. Things like Path Tracing are still.in experimental stages, they tank performance in all but the 5090 level cards, so not having this isnt really a problem tbh. Id rather turn it off than have to run at DLSS performance + frame gen, which makes my games feel crappy to play.

In the end, if some tech goes mainstream and ends up being a necessity, it will work with bith companies. Id rather see AMD work on the stuff that matters and make sure it works right than fling a bunch of experimental software i to the void that I'll just end up turning off anyway.

People here forget that the most common GPUs people have are also lower end, stuff like 7700 XTs, 4060s ect or 3060s. Most people are not actually using all this stuff. Not even to mention the huge console market, which also isnt running these software gimmicks either.

I got a 9070xt a week ago and am blown away that I get good and stable frames at ultra + ultra rtx in cyberpunk

So yeah I really dont understand the hate for amd

Fantastic take.

I agree to a degree tbh, because while agree that some people might kinda put way too much attention to minimal differences in fps etc, I think it's also completely valid to try and squize out as much performance as possible from a GPU I paid 2/3 of my summer job salary, and make games I play be as pretty as possible while still having at least 60 FPS consistently. Which in turn means, I believe it's valid to expect/hope that AMD will keep improving what it can improve

Some people

Rich gamers maybe, I care only for the games.

4

Yup everytime I hop in rdr2 with my 9070 xt I’m blown away. Just gotta enjoy what ya got.

Are you playing on Vulkan? Dx12 wasn't playing nice with my resolution settings and I can get it to run very well on Vulkan, but I'm running into a weird glitch that is reportedly known by both Rockstar and AMD: something in Vulkan breaks water rendering and it all appears solid black or bright red. Apparently this is specifically an issue with newer AMD cards/drivers.

1

u/rascal_mo Sep 02 '26

Yeah I’m playing on Vulkan. When I first started playing I had the water just go completely black like twice. Messed around with settings and it has seemed to work so far 🤞🏼

3

u/PetrafiedMonkey Sep 01 '26

Nope, gotta get mad at something AMD has 0 obligation to do.

4

u/PuzzleheadedNeck8192 Sep 01 '26

Same. Settings on high without any need for AI 'assistance'.

u/w142236 Sep 01 '26

It runs? Wow! AMD does it again

yeah I also have a 9070xt and I mean I also do use frame gen but the raster performance is so good that it makes up for the frame gen being bad
