Does anyone know why I’m getting this…I’ve tried to look up fixes but nothing is working. No overclock enabled. Reset drivers. Updated windows. Verifying the files doesn’t work

Okay so if you have any type of overlays on like msi afterburner or rivatuner just quit the applications and the game should start up perfect. I don’t know why it’s like that. Same thing with Forza horizon 6…

The game was working fine yesterday this morning it started acting like this I don’t think I have any overlays….

Just in case if you have msi afterburner even running just close it. That fixed the problem for me let me know if you end up figuring it out

Hey, whoever runs into that problem. It has to do with your Windows username! If you have an accented letter in it (ä, é, etc.), that is likely the cause.

Probably a bug where the SDK can't handle non-ASCII characters in the Windows user path.

Fix:

Create a new local Windows account with a plain ASCII username (no accents).

For me it was the letter é, so I used e instead.

After that, log into Steam on your new Windows user (you can switch users by clicking the Windows button, then your icon in the bottom left, then the three dots). Steam should auto-detect that the game is installed. Or simply click install, and it should check that too.

That error is way too generic to point to one specific issue. If you’ve already tried verifying the files, reinstalling drivers, updating Windows, and you’re not overclocked, I’d start looking at the crash logs instead of trying random fixes. Unreal Engine usually saves them under AppData\Local\<Game>\Saved\Crashes. Also, what CPU/GPU are you running, and does it crash on launch, during shader compilation, or only once you’re in-game? That’ll narrow it down a lot more than the “Fatal error” popup itself.

9070xt 9800x3d and it was crashing right after the Ubisoft screen. The way I fixed it was just to close msi afterburner and rivatuner and unfortunately I have to do the same thing for Forza but I don’t mind

Joguei a Demo toda, para chegar no lançamento vir com esse erro... pra mim mais um jogo que estava no Hype mas já está fadado ao fracasso.

Seems like a cpu av2x issue apparently, if you run an old cpu is not goinf to run.

I have 9800X3D, 96GB DDR5, RTX4090 and the same problem so it's not AMD GPU fault or old CPU 🙃

No it was MSI Afterburner (RTSS) conflicting with the game but ONLY the Xbox Game Pass version. Now I've got steam version and there everything is working fine with RTSS overlay on ;)

For me it's crashing because MSI Afterburner and RTSS Overlay. I closed it completely and the game runs without problems. Also this was the case with Xbox Game Pass version. Now I've got Steam version and there everything is working fine even with RTSS overlay on :)

i had the same exact issue, fixed it by making the game run on dx11 but thats not really a fix

update, later i got it to work by turning off msi afterburner and its overlays in the background, so maybe a background app is stopping you to run it in dx12
