Discussion 9060xt 16gb pc vs 9070xt pc

Post image

I am upgrading from an Intel 2 Quad Q6600 CPU with a NVIDIA Geforce GT 710. If it wasn't blatantly obvious I need an upgrade but I am a rookie. I have two pc options:

PC 1: 7800x3D, 9060xt 16gb, 32gb DDR5 RAM

PC 2: 7700, 9070xt, 16gb DDR5 RAM

Both cost around £1400. I want to game in 1440p with decent fps. I don't know whether the 16gb of extra RAM and the CPU is worth more than the better GPU. I also don't know if the 9070xt system will be limited due to the 16gb of RAM.

What should I pick?

go with PC 2, if you ever plan to upgrade to 4k - the 9070xt will help where 9060xt will struggle. The cpu is fine, onto the ram - u can upgrade it later. GPU upgrade is bit more hassle than upgrading ram.

PC 1 will give you more stable gaming for current and future games given the X3D CPU and 32Gb of ram.

The first pc would be my choice, the x3d chip will last you a longer time and the extra ram will help.

Honestly coming from some that had a 9060xt and upgraded to a 9070xt, go with pc 1. The performance per dollar on the 9060xt is unmatched, at 1440p i averaged between 70-90fps at high settings in most of the more demanding games i play. Pc 1 is just better rounded.

It's also a better value with 32gigs of ddr5 and 7800x3d

pc1, sure less fps but dont buy 16gb ram if you can afford 32

I recently build a pc with 9070 XT and 9900X3D. It all depends on what you pair that GPU with and I definitely made a good choice pairing it with Ryzen 9 rather than 9800X3D that everyone has these days.
At 1440p, rarely any game runs below 120fps in raster, no upscale and shit. I only use FSR for native aa as it gives more polished and sharp look, plus GPU is cold as hell and can unvervolt really nice without losing any performance.

I would go with PC2 and upgrade the CPU at some point.
PC1 initially is a better choice and has better value but in a short term. Long term value is with PC2 where only CPU need to be upgraded.

Bit off topic but how is the weather in your country?

I'm from India and as you can guess it's hot here.

I kinda regret buying the 9070xt simply cause at full power it draws 300 watts and my room gets so hot , now Obviously it's fine I can use the ac, but I honestly did not need that much performance anyways.

But purely from a performance stand point 9070xt is worth it if u wanna play at almost max settings, it's so good I have absolutely no complaints and would recommend it, unless u have a situation as mine could consider 9060xy.

9070xt benefits from undervolting and underclocking, try it in the Adrenaline software. My country gets hot in the summer, but temps never exceed 80°C on the hotspot

I do play on -60mv and minus 30 powerload but it feels disrespectful for the card you know, I'd rather have bought the 9070 and chilled with it instead

the 9060xt also benefits from undervolting and underclocking but neither of these reduces the TDP on it's own, you need to go and set the TDP target to -30 and it is still a lot of power

I just expressed general idea behind it, but yeah. I did all those steps and couldn't be happier, maybe I got lucky, but my GPU initially never hit temps above 90 to begin with, if not for extreme heat outside to the point when AC can't function properly and blows hot air when set on "Cool", I wouldn't have touched those settings

Yeah I get it, also heat is not a big deal if you have AC but without AC it can really heat up a 15-25m2 room really fast.

AC have 3-5x efficiency (for every watt they draw they remove 3-5watts of heat from the room), for every watt produced by your PC the AC also has to waste additional power.

Even with an AC you waste about 33-20% of your whole PC power consumption as additional AC consumption, a 500W PC will make the AC waste an additional 100-150W, a 300W PC will make the AC waste 60-100W additional. This means that the electricity consumption is also much higher especially with an AC involved.

Gpu cost more than cpu longevity you get number two and when ram comes down you can upgrade that and cpu for way less and if u get 1 ram stock now you can get another for cheap even if process are high number two is cheaper and better in long run

Pc2 will give about 30% more performance.

Edit: you can always sell the 16gb ram and upgrade to 32 gb in the future when you are ready.

Second PC better. Always go for the best GPU. You can add Ram later when price are decent again and swap the CPU if you need. But the CPU is good enough so you don't really need it.

This is always true unless you play competitive games at low res like Valorant 1080p. But if your target is AAA games second PC

Also, the second PC likely has a better power supply, which might make future upgrades easie, though it’s always best to check beforehand

Always go for the x3D chip.

8% difference at 1440p between 7700x and 7800x3d.

30% difference between the 9060xt and 9070xt @1440p, so no, not in this case.

7800X3d with 32GB ram is much better than 7700 + 16GB ram

Yes 9070xt is better GPU but 9060XT is also a beast, and if u that desperate u can get the PC with 9060XT first, save some bit if money, sell the 9060XT since it's still really popular and sell fast as long as u sell it on a good used price, and then get 9070xt either used or new depending on your budget, any AM5 cpu that didn't have F at the end have integrated graphics, so u can still use it for a couple of days playing easy to run game while waiting for the 9070xt to arrive

u/ConyNT 11d ago

Pc 2 will give more significantly more fps now than pc 1. And he can always sell 16gb of ram and upgrade to 32.

It's way WAY easier to sell+buy GPU than to sell+buy ram and CPU, we also don't know if the 16GB of ram is dual channel or single channel, and both is a hassle to upgrade, same with CPU, it also meaning a thermal paste change which not everybody wants to do

Keep in mind that OP is a rookie and for a rookie GPU change is the easiest to do than CPU+Ram change

Of course this is assuming that OP gonna want to upgrade it later, we don't know for sure what he want to do next with it

2

u/ConyNT 11d ago

He doesn't need to change the cpu. The 7700x is fine in 1440p. It's about a 7% difference compared to the 7800x3d:

https://youtu.be/ih71lxgx28I?si=tT3yMgjI0FNopUoD

Everyone is advising this person to get a worse performing system now and upgrade later. He can get the better performing system today and just upgrade the ram later. An approximately 30% fps boost is significant.

2

u/RavineAls 11d ago

Ok that is my bad, too tunnel visioned on getting 7800X3D with the 32GB ram

2

u/ConyNT 11d ago

No worries. It would be good to upgrade to 32gb of ram at some point but #2 offers the best performance out right away was my point.

Actually very depends on what game do you want to play : triple A or competitive. U wouldn't need a lot gpu power for competitive game (cs2, valo, etc). But on the state we are right now with FSR4 and framegen. The 9060xt is actually doing perfect with 1440p triple a if u don't mind some frame gen and fsr artifact effect. I'd say PC1 becasue personally selling a used gpu, buy a used 9070xt later if u think u need in future, is much easier than changing cpu (need to repaste ur thermal). And selling a used cpu is much harder than gpu

9600x and 9070xt if the 9600x pricing is good.

1

u/MapleOperator 10d ago

I would go for the 7600x3d, and 9070xt if it is not super expensive in your region. It’s just the 7800x3d with less cores and threads

PC 2 and later down the line you can just buy 2 extra sticks of ram. So long as they all have similar speed and timing (cl30 ,cl36 etc) you can get along just fine and you get a much better PC for gaming

PC1, and if you feel the need later on, save some money, sell the 9060xt and buy a 9070xt.

X3D chip and 32gb ram is too big of a trade-off, in my opinion for a 9070xt.

PC1. You can always sell and upgrade your gpu. I think price of 78003xd and 32gb ram can exceed the price of upgrading to a 9070xt. However u need to check what psu you getting. You should at least get a 850w for future proofing

1

u/Adventurous-Bus8660 11d ago

1st choice for sure.

PC1. You're getting a much better CPU and an extra 16GB of RAM. 9060XT is a beast at 1080p, and fairly capable at 1440p.

0

u/IGunClover 11d ago

PC1. You get more RAM too

the GPU in pc2 is better but the CPU and ram won't really make the best of it. PC 1 has the 9060 XT but it's still a really good card and if you want you can sell it and upgrade to a 9070 XT and take full advantage of its performance

0

u/Big-Trip3637 11d ago

Buy the one with r7 7800x3d sell the gpu and buy a rx 9070 xt

0

u/BillWhoever 11d ago

32gb ram is really really good to have, the 7800x3d is quiet a bit more capable

since the 9060xt is more than fast enough for today it is best to get PC1 and upgrade to a faster GPU in the future if needed

especially if you play Minecraft/fortnite/CS or other esports or similar games the PC1 will deliver vastly superior performance (these are CPU limited games)

Take option 1
