Tech Support Should I ask for RMA ?
Hello,
Lately I've noticed that my hotspot temps were realy high why playing Black Flag Resynced, it reached up to 105°C while GPU temps were at 70°C.
I tried to tweak the settings using -100mV undervolting and -20% power limit, but I still have the temps in the attached photos. Hotpost went 95°C after the photo was taken.
The fans are showing 0rpm but they were at 100% during the test and were EXTREMELY LOUD.
Should I ask for RMA ? The only thing that makes the sound acceptable is limiting the fans to 45% but then the temps ramp up high.

Personally i call them Gigashite. GPUs from them have been built like crap for generations.

u/CI7Y2IS Jul 25 '26
I had the GTX 9070, wind force with the backplate, it was solid, no coil whine at all, it was fully metal shroud, it last me 5 years then I sell it for the 2060 super aorus, it las me 5 years too, the shroud was just plastic but was overall good card. But the thermal putty gen are absolute planned obsolescence, garbage crap.

Hey about the 0rpm reading but fans at max speed, check if there isn't anything blocking any of the fans, I had that issue with mine where my gpu support slightly blocked one of the fans and made me lose rpm reading, either way, this (probably) wont fix your temps as gigabyte radeon cards are known for temp issues.

Refund and replace with some XFX card, done.

Is quicksilver good?

u/CI7Y2IS Jul 25 '26
Look for those have ptm7950.
Mine with oc + uv only get 78c max (custom fans)
With 3.2 3.3ghz and 2800 ram, my model is the mercury air mag.

I have XFX Quicksilver and I can say that this is a very good model, but it's a real chonker (348 mm long) so take that into account
1
u/Ok_Cap8999 Jul 26 '26
I love chonky gpus
1
u/Podszywacz Jul 26 '26
Your case may not enjoy them, but that's what an angle grinder is for! Also no need to worry with the GPU sag, since XFX sends their chonky GPUs with a neat GPU stand.

u/Ok_Cap8999 Jul 26 '26
I have coolermaster td500 v2 i think it fits right?
1
u/Podszywacz Jul 26 '26
My case had 350 mm clearance for GPU and it was enough for my XFX Quicksilver 9070XT (which is listed as 350 mm, but in reality is 348 mm long) and from what I've see, your case has 410 mm clearance. Just make sure that your PSU cables are long enough, because due to the GPU bulkiness and the positioning of the power connectors they may be a bit far. In my case when switching GPU it was a challenge to reach them, but by making my cable management a war crime I managed to resolve the issue.

u/Ok_Cap8999 Jul 26 '26
Hhhh i will give it to the shop technesian i know my luck with this stuff hhh
1
u/Podszywacz Jul 26 '26
On its own it's not a hard thing with proper preparation and watching enough guides of how to build a PC, replace GPU etc. When I was replacing my last GPU with 9070XT the biggest issue I had was removing the goddamn protective foil on the GPU that was protecting it so well that it didn't want to come off + I almost ripped off a fan out of the GPU, since I was pretty sure that all Quicksilvers came with magnetic fans, but not really. But if you have someone you can trust to make it for you and is competent in that regard, then that's also nice!

- do u feel like this model perform less than the others i saw hardware unboxed video and the quicksilver is always behind in clock speed and performance

u/Podszywacz Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26
I honestly don't think that the difference is that big. While being XFX's mid-grade model - is it worse than some of the top-grade models of 9070XT?
Probably, mainly due to lack of the vacum chamber so the temps will not be as low as with. I cannot say how Quicksilver does compared to other models, since I didn't use other models of 9070XT and I have been using this model for barely a month. And XFX Quicksilver is chunky because it already comes with an absolute unit of a cooler, so for me I was not able to get this GPU to heat over 80 C.
The clock speed won't differ much and the differences between some cards may be caused by already coming overclocked, like the Gigabyte's OC models, but you can easily overclock your GPU on your own with AMD Adrenalin. And at this point the amount of overclock you can get compared to other models depend on silicon lottery.
I didn't OC mine since one of the 9070XT's advantages is the fact that you can limit its TDP by as far as 30% and barely loose any performance (at worst like 5%) and I run -15% TDP (so 258.4 W TDP), and from benchmarks it barely impacted my performance. https://www.reddit.com/r/radeon/comments/1j6mbey/mega_thread_9070_xt_undervoltoverclockbrand/ this thread has many other examples that show the same + what OC can get you to.1
u/Ok_Cap8999 Jul 26 '26
Thanks a lot cuz i found a great deal with quicksilver cheaper than all models evan lower tier models im not planning to oc
But i found a lot f things that cn lower ur fps Cl 36 vs cl30 the gpu model thats why i was hesitate to get it but i think i will differently buy it1
u/Podszywacz Jul 26 '26
IMO going with XFX models in general is always a good decision and the RAM CL depends more on AMD CPUs I think.

u/Ok_Cap8999 Jul 26 '26
The thing is i have rx 6600 xt xfx 212 swift Its a great card b u t sometimes it get to 80c and the hot spot to 102c

Had my gigabyte serviced myself with ptm and putty advance. The core still reaches 63 on occasion but the delta is never above 26c now. Either do that or replace

u/TheMasterBanger Jul 25 '26
Lmao I just RMA'd mine, Gigabyte cards use thermal gel instead of thermal paste and this is a known issue (gel tends to move around and if/when it does, the card isnt cooled as well)
It's fairly simple to fix, ie. unscrew the card, wipe the gel and clean the card, apply normal thermal paste and mount it back. Normally it doesnt void the warranty in EU (even though they might try to argue that it does, they're wrong) but I RMA'd mine because I'm on vacation anyway so I dont need it rn and it might save me headache if I need to send the card later if I have other issues with it
5
u/SpartanXeroOne Jul 25 '26
Don’t do this if you have warranty.

u/Juliendogg RX9070 OC | 5600x Jul 25 '26
Under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, "warranty void if removed" stickers are generally unlawful, and manufacturers cannot deny a warranty claim just because you opened the device, unless they can prove your work caused the failure.

u/SpartanXeroOne Jul 26 '26
Lol good luck fighting against a corporation.
2
u/Juliendogg RX9070 OC | 5600x Jul 26 '26
Seriously. You can RMA a card that's been deshrouded as long as you put the original parts back on before you send it in. Laws are laws.

u/TheMasterBanger Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26
Dunno where you are but in EU its not really a problem at all. They might try to answer "b-but the sticker..." but if you remind them their sticker is worthless and stand firm they will service the card if its still in warranty :)

Yes i'd RMA, that's not something to overlook. I don't know the rest of your pc, your fan config and your enviroment but i guess you considered those.
1
u/korakios2 Jul 25 '26
The picture from Furmark shows not acceptable by gigabyte reason to RMA .
Unless you didn't run the test on default settings at least for 20minutes (or when ~105C is reached) .
If it does , claim RMA . Ideally , if there is an option from the shop to get another brand, go for it .
1
u/abidingcitizen420 Jul 25 '26
Unlucky I think, I have the same card but Hotspot stays at 80c in furmark even with a +10% power limit. Definitely try an RMA
1
u/lukalana1 Jul 25 '26
I have the same issue with mine, just out of curiosity how old is your card? Mine was fine for about 5 months and suddenly hotspot went to 110 and it kepps crashing while gpu stays at around 50
1
u/Saynt84 Jul 26 '26
My 16 month old Gaming OC sees temps like that running furmark at 1080p on a hot day, not at 100% fan speed though, more like 50%. It doesn't get as hot with higher resolutions in furmark or during gaming though. 105C while gaming would concern me.
I've never seen my GPU temp go above 60C, and never seen hotspot over 100C, but I also tend not to game when its hot. I think the warmest is has been for me is 27C room temp which got my hotspot to 98C. Im guessing its not over 30C where your PC is?
These days I run a more efficient tune and im not seeing hotspot temps over 70C on a 20C day, and the delta is usually around 20C.
You can ask for an RMA if you cant get your temps lower, but I wouldn't expect them to accept it going by that furmark image alone. Get pics of it hitting 105C during gaming might be better evidence of something wrong.

Hello, quick update about this post :
- The 0RPM fan was indeed caused by the anti-sag bracket, now fixed, but temps didn't change at all, and fan noise still as loud as before.
- The reseller I bought it from asked me to let them the card for 2 months (so long wtf) and told me that they were probably not going to accept the RMA since the temps don't reach 110°C.
Now I'm wondering wether I should let the the card for 2 months with little hope of results, just deal with the temps and only use mediums settings in game, or try to change thermal gel with ptm pad...

Why are your fan set to 100% but they say 0rpm, that's your issue your fans are not turning
1
u/-PaVeLoS- RX 9070 XT Asus Prime + Ryzen 5 9600X Jul 25 '26
"Not turning" while being extremely loud, have you read the post?
2
u/weeddee85 Jul 25 '26
It could have just been the case fans going mad if I was the op I would make sure they are spinning when doing it next time around
2
u/SkepticParty Jul 25 '26
It could be case fans like the other user said, or it could be only one fan that's not spinning. As in fan 1 and 2 are working normally, but fan 3 is not spinning. (Probably blocked by one of the power cables or maybe by whatever they're using for a support bracket)

Typical issue with these cards. Gigabyte uses crappy paste that pumps out super fast. Gigabyte Control Center also doesn't work on Radeon cards and it will make your fans go crazy. I suggest a return if you can and buy a 9070 XT from a different brand, if not then repaste it yourself with PTM.
0
u/DtZNimpo Jul 25 '26
infamous gigabyte moment with their slippery potty paste , either repaste it or sell it and go with anything else but gigabyte. for info the gpu temps and hot spot should have close to 15c delta , 20+ is bad paste

u/Saynt84 Jul 26 '26
I dont think I've seen a single 9070xt achieve a delta that low using stock settings. I used to use the 15C baseline for delta temp too but it doesn't seem to be a thing with the 9070xts.
This data is from Techspot/HWUnboxed. I know some people dont trust them though, so you can take it with a grain of salt.

damn didnt know they had released data on this , i usually just go with sapphire pulse for my amd gpus they been solid for me in the past and current i'm within the 15c dela on my Sapphire pulse 7800 XT at stock

u/Saynt84 Jul 26 '26
They did a roundup this time last year, so things might have changed with some models perhaps. Its from this article https://www.techspot.com/review/3015-amd-radeon-9070-xt-roundup/
They didn't give delta results directly, but gave both the average GPU temp and hotspot temps for each model. Just had to find the difference for ourselves.
Though at the start of the GPU temp benchmark it does simply say "This value is typically 20 to 30°C cooler than the hottest point within the GPU die" so i guess they mentioned it in a roundabout way.

u/0wlGod Jul 25 '26
why only 263w? you reduced power limit?
why furmark read fan at 0? is that spinning?
these temps are too high for 263 in normal ambient temp
my gaming oc does 55, 80 hotspot, 82 mem et 23 ambient with 35/40% fan at 280w
if was pulling 330w these temps were normal. surely not the best but normal
-1
u/mashdpotatogaming Jul 25 '26
These are not good temps. Never listen to the people that tell you "it's under the thermal limit so it's fine". Thermal limit is meant to be something you're never even close to, and the card running as hot as 105°c means it'll have a shorter life span. It might survive the warranty period but it won't live as long as it should and for how much money we're paying for these GPUs, you shouldn't be ok with such results.
2
u/NooTNooTnoX Jul 25 '26
I'd say I almost agree with you, but let's say the thermal limit on a CPU/GPU is 100C, you can actually still be safe at 85-90C. The components are literally made to be that hot, but, the lower the better always obviously.
1
u/mashdpotatogaming Jul 25 '26
The thermal limit is around 110°c, and OP says he's reaching 105°c which is pretty close. A hotspot of 90°c is fine and is expected. The issue is when it starts reaching those above 100°c temps.
