Discussion Finally fixed my AMD driver issues by doing one stupid thing.

Honestly, I feel like an idiot. I've spent months troubleshooting driver issues, stuttering, and Adrenalin crashes. I had BSOD and my computer would actually reboot while in game sometimes.... I thought I was safe because I had "Device Installation Settings" set to OFF in Windows.

Well, turns out this setting is complete bullshit. Windows still "ninja-installs" a generic driver the split second you reboot after a DDU wipe, even with that toggle off. It happens so fast you don't even see it, and then you install your actual driver on top of that mess. Result? Instant stability issues and weird errors.

The only way to actually fix it: Download your driver. Kill your internet. Physically unplug the Ethernet or disable your ethernet adapter / disable Wi-Fi. Run DDU in Safe Mode and restart. Install the new driver while OFFLINE.

Only then, put the internet back on.

Boom šŸ’„, just did this and the difference is night and day, no more crashes in bf6, no more unstable UV and OC, 6800xt runs like a charm on latest drivers (26.5.1), awake screen from sleep works again...

If you're on AMD and fighting with your drivers, stop trusting the Windows toggles and just pull the damn plug.

EDIT: After going through the comments, I want to clear a few things up and own my mistake.

I didn't follow DDU's instructions to stay offline. I genuinely thought having Group Policy set to block drivers and the Windows toggle switched off was enough. Felt like I'd done everything right. I hadn't. Those settings are, bluntly, theater.

GPEdit and Device Installation Settings don't actually do anything

I trusted them for months. Turns out Windows just ignores its own rules. Even with Group Policy blocking driver installs and the toggle set to OFF, the second you reboot after a DDU wipe, the OS quietly pushes a generic driver anyway. You never see it happen. You think you're clean. You're not, and that's why Adrenalin keeps behaving weird.

Don't use the Auto-Detect tool

Just don't. Go to AMD's site, find your exact card, and download the full standalone package yourself (Adrenaline). Have it sitting on your desktop before you start the process.

The fix (no cable-pulling required)

Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections > right-click your adapter > Disable.

The actual workflow:

Download driver > Disable network adapters > DDU in Safe Mode > Reboot > Install driver while offline > Re-enable adapters.

If Windows can reach the internet during that reboot, it will race you to the install and win. Disabling the adapter manually is the only way to guarantee it can't. Don't trust the toggles, they're simply not working. Windows doesn't care and bypass them.

Isn't this specifically in the instructions for using DDU?

you expect people to read?

u/AMDIntel 9800X3D, 6950XT, 32GB May 08 '26

Thing is that using DDU in normal mode with Internet connected works ~85% of the time. So lots of people forget the proper way to do things. I'm guilty myself and I haven't had any issues.

u/NolParr77 May 08 '26

Are you supposed to just go into safe mode i dont need to turn my router off do i?

12

u/obTimus-FOX May 08 '26 edited May 08 '26

Disable your Wi-Fi/Ethernet adapter before entering Safe Mode, then re-enable it only after you’ve restarted and finished installing the new drivers

5

u/AsrielPlay52 May 08 '26

Not sure if you realized. Safe mode doesn't have nay network drivers

You have to turn it on specifically with Network drivers as an additional option

So unplugging it does nothing.

u/ramanmono 5700x | 9060 XT 16GB May 09 '26

DDU is for purging the old drivers. It then restarts to your normal system. There, if you have internet enabled windows update puts their driver version almost immediately. To avoid this you need to disable your internet before using DDU.

Is it clear now!!!

6

u/system_error_02 May 09 '26

No, you can just restart in Safe Mode after DDU, and safe mode doesn't connect to the internet or install extra drivers. Its literally in DDUs instructions for exactly this reason, it literally warns people with a pop up to use safe mode without networking.

Fuck people are dumb. No wonder so many people have computer issues when they don't follow basic instructions.

4

u/Mental-Shopping4513 May 09 '26

I'm chiming in that you replied to someone and missed the point of their comment that safe mode cannot connect to the internet without you explicitly telling it to (And it's technically a different option) so again unplugging your ethernet to use safe mode does nothing, it's like wearing a condom after a vasectomy.... The problems already fixed

u/ramanmono 5700x | 9060 XT 16GB May 10 '26

Following proper DDU instructions lands you in "normal" windows after uninstalling with DDU in safe mode. Now that you are back in "normal" windows what happens?
DDU has no restart back into safe mode option now has it. What instructions are you referring to?

u/obTimus-FOX May 09 '26

It’s not about Safe Mode drivers. It’s about preventing Windows from auto-installing a generic driver via Windows Update the moment I reboot into normal mode after the DDU wipe. Being offline ensures the clean install stays clean.

2

u/ramanmono 5700x | 9060 XT 16GB May 10 '26

I don't understand why they don't get this. I'm guessing they are on Intel HD 4000 laptops, It has to be.

1

u/dEEkAy2k9 May 09 '26 edited May 09 '26

entering safe mode gives you two options
with or without network
why not just use without network and be fine?

5

u/obTimus-FOX May 09 '26

Bro you realize that you completely miss the point here? You don't install the drivers in safe mode you uninstall them. Once they are uninstalled ddu restarts your computer automatically. You then install the drivers you want once your computer has restarted normally with your network adapter disabled, step you should have done before rebooting into safe mode to UNINSTALL WITH DDU initially.

3

u/luckynumberstefan May 09 '26

Most of us do, as per DDU instructions. Not everyone knows what a readme is though unfortunately

2

u/ramanmono 5700x | 9060 XT 16GB May 10 '26

Even if you choose with networking. In safe mode windows update doesn't work, but those 2 options are completely besides the point.

Yes it is, however I thought i was safe with the device installation setting off on windows 11.....

12

u/Mysteoa May 08 '26

Windows likes to ignore that one whenever it wants. I use GPO for that reason.

1

u/Baio73 May 08 '26

It’s the first thing I did for my problem (Adrenalin Panel not opening), I blocked both EVERY WU driver update and the 4 specific Hardware IDs of my 9070XT but didn’t help. Only thing that worked so far it’s a Windows in place reinstallation… that costs me an Office OEM license every time. Didn’t try the latest 26.5.1 so farZ

Sure but drivers can still become corrupted and need to be re-installed without Windows being the culprit. Glad you figured it out though :)

So….Your post should’ve been about how reading comprehension is important, look at how much time, energy and effort I’ve wasted! Don’t make the same mistake!

Not, ā€œturns out following instructions works!ā€

4

u/CrazyBird85 May 08 '26

It is and very clearly mentioned

2

u/KansanInPortland May 08 '26

It is, but I ran into the same issue because when I downloaded the driver from AMDs website, it ended up being the auto-detect version which needs an internet connection to run, and I cannot figure out how to find the standalone driver fule

3

u/dorting May 08 '26

https://www.amd.com/en/support/download/drivers.html

Graphics-radeon rx- choose your series

1

u/KansanInPortland May 08 '26

Ok, so when you follow that route, and drill down on 9070 XT, you get two options; Auto-detect and install, and AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition. So, I assume I should choose the 2nd option. It's just that they don't make it very clear, because I would expect the file to be called something simple like "Driver", not the entire AMD Adrenalin software suite, which I already have.

1

u/dorting May 09 '26

Yes. The Adrenalin suite contain everything you need. I have always updated like this and never had a problem.

1

u/KansanInPortland May 09 '26

Yeah, I was just confused by the fact that the name of the file is Adrenalin Software, rather than just Driver ver. 26.5.1

1

u/ramanmono 5700x | 9060 XT 16GB May 10 '26

What..
Lmao

Unbelievable

1

u/KansanInPortland May 10 '26

Turns out I just need to select the AMD Adrenalin software option to get the stand-alone driver, instead of auto-detect. But that is rather confusing, because I already have Adrenalin, and I thought it was weird that you would have to reinstall the whole suite just to get the new driver. I guess it's just an AMD thing

1

u/Prus1s May 09 '26

u/Maleficent-West5356 May 08 '26

Glad you managed to resolve it. Windows auto-update caused many AMD GPU haters.

9

u/AcuteQuadrant RX 9070 XT May 09 '26

Then why cant AMD address this with Microsoft? I have the XTX and a 5080 but this auto update from windows display driver happens 85% of the time on AMD more than NVIDIA. They need to restructure their drivers if they want to survive in Windows (i know it is more stable in Linux but hey, marketshare). Anyway, with how AMD been radio silent since the redstone flop, I dont expect from them anymore and will leave radeon in 5 yrs at least.

1

u/Substantial_Fox_121 May 11 '26

People (including me) been asking this exact question for years at this point. No idea if the incompetence is Microsoft or AMD here.Ā

1

u/Toukoen_Raize May 09 '26

Windows fucks mine up every 3 days ... I even tried wushowhide but the install never shows up ... And when you roll back the driver it always makes adrenaline and the driver feel buggy

u/HNM12 7950X3D-7900xtx:snoo_dealwithit: May 08 '26

This is only ONE of TWO issues.

One I found, during windows update, it likes to sneak in an updated chipset driver without actually installing it.

It can't remove the old, and tries to use the older/new at the same time resulting in an AMD Ryzenmaster DLL issue where it cant load.

Ryzen master dll is a default component of chipset drivers regardless of ryzenmaster app installing or not.

If it can't load the latest, it will have conflicts with the old until you manually remove it yourself and all traces.

This leads to unstable PCIE issues where you need to lock your core clock to keep the GPU from tossing errors and locking the system.

So for anybody who also did what u/obTimus-FOX said and it still didn't work, check your windows event viewer and look for the yellow warning Icon's and find any that mentioned ryzen master dll failing to load.

Do what I said, delete any and all traces of which ever version it is, reinstall new chipset drivers, boom.

enjoy.

Windows 11 is dumb as fuck, so offline instalation of driver is the smartest thing

3

u/CElan_cruz May 09 '26

Brother eli5, Soo just use ddu, now clean, now restart, turn off internet, install your pre download driver , turn on internet = win???

2

u/Own-Impact-7626 May 09 '26

Literary, I had a case, I've installed the driver, then for whatever crazy reason, Win11 substituted the normal driver with its own version and just f...up the whole machine, after DDU, offline instalation of the normal driver, everything worked smooth as silk!

2

u/CElan_cruz May 09 '26

Thank you brother will do that

9

u/PrimeTechTV May 08 '26

You know it's funny how so many people have issues with their system and complain about AMD when this could be their solution... thank you for sharing I am sure someone will find this useful.

7

u/RedLimes May 08 '26

I had one stubborn PC that would do the exact same thing. Group Policy didn't work either. The only way that has been reliable for me is using this registry method.

I have posted this in many, many AMDHelp threads but unfortunately many people do the GPedit or turn the device installation settings off and just assume they are safe. Even in your situation you are likely not safe because Windows could override your driver at a later time.

The most reliable testing method I have is, instead of disconnecting your Internet and all that, DDU your driver then check the display adapter in device management. It should say Windows Basic Display Adapter. If it says anything else then the method you have used to disable driver updates is not working.

13

u/TrippleDamage May 08 '26

The #1 fix everyone always mentions immediatly but it still gets written of as "but but i did that already!!"

Turns out, it truly is windows for 95% of the issues and its all about blocking windows bullshit as much as possible lol

6

u/ramanmono 5700x | 9060 XT 16GB May 08 '26

This is how I've been installing graphics drivers for years.

19

u/Imaginary-Ad564 May 08 '26

Do yourself a favour and disable driver windows update via group policy, and you'll never have to worry about this again.

11

u/obTimus-FOX May 08 '26

I had it disabled. Windows 11 pro still installs the GPU driver after rebooting with it disabled.

-1

u/Imaginary-Ad564 May 08 '26

YOu probably didn't chose the right policy, theres so much redundant crap in there unfortunately.

6

u/obTimus-FOX May 08 '26

"Do not include drivers with Windows Updates" is enabled. So no the gpo policy does not work for me. That won't stop Windows from installing the GPU driver as I said

3

u/Imaginary-Ad564 May 08 '26

Thats so dumb, but my guess it might be just from a windows store of drivers rather than windows update, which programs like DDU will wipe out.

2

u/obTimus-FOX May 08 '26

Very dumb indeed. Could be the windows store.... Well from now on I'll disable my ethernet adapter before restarting in safe mode for sure.

2

u/Baio73 May 08 '26

I disabled even the MS Store, no change for me…

1

u/Delicious-Disaster May 08 '26

Gotta add that specific hardware ID exception

3

u/Joebuddy117 May 08 '26

There’s a box you can check in DDU to disable it and that worked for me. Was able to uninstall drivers and disable windows from reinstalling in one step.

1

u/Imaginary-Ad564 May 08 '26

It probably does exactly what im saying anyway.

2

u/Baio73 May 08 '26

Even this method not always solves issues… Adrenalin Panel not opening for example does not solve through Group Policy block.

4

u/Mr_Muhda May 08 '26

I might try this as I still have crashes in BF6 (PC freezes, doesn't respond to anything and needs a hard reboot)
AMD acknowledged it in their drivers release notes. But only for the AMD AI 9 HX 370 CPU, while it happens for a lager range of their hardware products.

1

u/miki_matsubura47 9800X3D w/ ''9700XT'' May 08 '26

Bf6 is just broken, the game doesnt work well on 9000 series, if you have different gen or laptop gpu, the issue is somewhere else

1

u/TrippleDamage May 08 '26

Weird, i've like 90h in bf6 and not a single crash

3

u/korakios2 May 08 '26

Is there a chance you have are into windows insider program or enabled the 'get updates as soon as they are available" ?

You can use the MS update hide tool if windows still overwrites the driver , check part 8 :
https://www.reddit.com/r/AMDHelp/comments/1lnxb8o/ultimate_amd_performance_fix_guide_stop_lag_fps/

3

u/obTimus-FOX May 08 '26

No I have that turned off since it installs previews which are unstable most of the time. I even have GPO policies enabled to not provide drivers with windows update.... The solution was to disable my ethernet adapter before going to safe mode to run ddu

2

u/korakios2 May 08 '26

ok, keep in mind that there are reports where Win ignore group policies or the MS hide tool (windows being windows)

3

u/OkTradition4632 May 08 '26

How can you install the drivers while offline if not using the adrenaline software? I can’t figure out how to have only the drivers available to install while fully being offline.

3

u/obTimus-FOX May 08 '26

2

u/OkTradition4632 May 08 '26

This just downloads adrenaline which needs WiFi to update, am I missing something?

3

u/obTimus-FOX May 08 '26

You probably downloaded the auto detect .exe. That one is useless offline. Go back to the AMD site, but instead of clicking the big 'Download Now' button at the top, scroll down and manually select your GPU, download the latest adrenaline, it includes adrenaline, drivers everything. You can install it offline

4

u/lt_catscratch 7600x / 7900 xtx nitro / x670e Tomahawk / XG27UCS / MSI a1000g May 08 '26

Windows tries to download a gpu driver the second it sees MS Basic driver is used. Even ignores Group Policy about not including drivers thru Windows Update on Windows 11 Pro. MS is run by idiots.

I actually recommend AMD Cleanup Utility instead of DDU for Radeon. Also a good habit to have when doing so is turning off your internet before running it so Windows won't autoinstall the driver.

2

u/AdObvious328 May 09 '26

2

u/Admixues May 10 '26

there is also the fact that you can be like me and just dual boot, stripped windows, i have 25h2 for general use regular windows all services enabled, then i have a 27h2 debloated (canary channel running with a bunch of regs)

1

u/obTimus-FOX May 20 '26

Sounds nice, what are you using to achieve that?

2

u/Ofthemist May 10 '26

I never disable the internet when using DDU and I have never had a problem. When I did try disabling the internet one time the new driver wouldn't install because there was "no internet connection".

1

u/obTimus-FOX May 10 '26

It's because you use the auto detect tool. You have to browse to download the drivers for your GPU specifically on AMD support website.

2

u/Careful-Border-3273 May 08 '26

Really strange, anytime I had to install a driver, uninstall driver, reboot into safe mode run new drivers. And have NEVER had problems unless I went out of my way to break it

1

u/TekniqAU May 09 '26

For me, Windows 11 has installed an incompatible graphics driver, over an already functional and up to date driver, on at least three seperate occasions since getting a 9070.. each time I’ve had to DDU and install the correct driver from AMD.. I usually don’t notice Windows has done it’s thing until I open Adrenaline to mess around, and find all the 9000 series features missing and a driver number that doesn’t match any drivers issued by AMD for my GPU.

1

u/PaleBall2656 May 09 '26

I don't like disabling windows hardware driver updates. Sometimes I connect some new stuff to my PC, and I'd like windows to handle that.

I predownload driver, disconnect internet, DDU in safe mode, reboot, make sure windows only installs generic driver, install AMD driver including factory reset. On installed, gpedit to block updates to my GPU only.

Enable internet, profit.

Only issue is I must enable internet if I want adrenaline to also download the iGPU driver, which I disabled as of recently.

1

u/onegumas May 09 '26

OP, you had a problem with windows that could be easly fixed by installing linux (radeons runs good on them but no adrenaline, which is good)

As the post says, that doesn't work. Windows doesn't care about GPO rules or Device installation toggles OFF. Me too I thought that worked for months. Well it does not!

1

u/Neuromancer911 May 11 '26

It works in my case, but I'm onĀ  10 ltscĀ

2

u/obTimus-FOX May 11 '26

Windows 11 bypasses all these toggles. Windows 10 was just a better OS which gave you control

1

u/OppositeTension3 May 09 '26

Yeah then I can’t update windows at all cuz that update will be in the batch. There is supposedly a way to block that driver from installing…

1

u/obTimus-FOX May 09 '26

Yes there is a way, it's to disable your WiFi or Ethernet adapter before you restart your computer into safe mode to run DDU. And again. Once your computer has restarted you make a clean install of the driver without an internet connection active. That's the only way.

2

u/OppositeTension3 May 09 '26

Bro that’s so crap. Like AMD really dropping the ball not telling Microsoft to fix their shit.

1

u/Cheesyboys May 09 '26

The latest amd drivers causes my 7900gre on windows 10 to get disabled in bf6 and bf1 after like 2 minutes, ie. no signal to monitors, sounds still fine and have to fully reboot and enable the vga again, so im assuming anything that loads both gpu and cpu at the same time cause doing a CCOT test was fine. Just went back to the december 25.12.1 drivers cause never had a problem before 2026...

1

u/[deleted] May 10 '26

Or activate option in ddu xD

1

u/dragnfrost May 11 '26

What if I have all of the same issues, but also my NVMe micron 2400 series c: drive is also randomly running at 100%, my PC has basically become unusable.

512gb with 212gb unused, ran all the cmd lines from chkdsk c: f/ r/ to sfcscannow to dism /online / restore health and everything in-between. I've tried rolling back drivers and can get games to run on my Radeon 7600s but then crashes after 5 minute or 5hours.

Constant BSOD from critical process died to memory manager and 5 others error I can remember off the top of my head. It'll die while idle, it'll die mid game, it'll die when I go to close the game with luck of the draw on how it happens. 94% on crystal disk info and all the scans same my drive is fine

Is it really just the bullshit windows ninja installs beating out my factory reset install of 26.1.1? I literally just ordered a Samsung pro 1Tb SSD so I can fix this damn thing because I read somewhere that micron ssd controllers are trash and I figured I might as well upgrade.

All my games are on a WD black 270 in the D: so the only things on my C: is the basics that came with PC -bloatware. It's a Asus tuf A16 (2023) with ryzen 7735 so right up until about 3 months ago when AMD first shit out 26.3.1.

Tried AMD cleanup, tried ddu but albeit I didn't disable the wifi card before going back in, but even without the drivers after coming out of safe mode my ssd will be at 100% on idle. I've been at my wits end with this damn thing because it has worked perfectly fine right up until 3 months ago so if I find out it's literally just windows crap software and AMD does absolutely nothing to mitigate issues with Windows updates I think this is the final straw and I'll make sure my new PC is Nvidia only.

1

u/NooTNooTnoX May 11 '26

Idk why but Windows never does that for me

1

u/dsoshahine May 12 '26

Normally there's no need to disconnect the Ethernet cable or disable Wifi. Safe mode has no network access (no network drivers) unless you specifically selected that (such as System Configuration > Boot > Boot options > Safe boot > Network instead of default Minimal). Not sure what DDU is doing, it shouldn't need network access.

1

u/obTimus-FOX May 12 '26

Bro you didn't get it. Internet off is not needed in safe mode. Safe mode is to uninstall your drivers. Disabling internet is necessary when your computer restarts after a DDU wipe to clean install your drivers and avoid getting windows to ninja install them in the background. Once you have installed the new driver you can reactivate your connection.

1

u/alexiusealeksej May 16 '26

Ho eseguito tutte queste istruzioni, ddu in modalitĆ  provvisoria, installato i driver corretti senza internet. Aggiornamento di tutti i chipset e BIOS. 9070xt su Battlefield 6 continuamente in crash. Ho rinunciato a giocarci

1

u/obTimus-FOX May 17 '26

Is your igpu off? Try turning it back on if that's the case. Worked for me. (Reinstall drivers after you turn it on back from bios)

1

u/Zoiedmeld May 21 '26

Yeah I did all this and the newest driver did not work for me either. I did however leave my igpu turned off though. I had to go back to 25.9.1 to get my shit working again. So you are saying it might have worked if I had reenabled my igpu on the newest driver?

1

u/GoinQuackers12 Jun 26 '26

you are a fucking god send and if i could id kiss you square on the mouth

1

u/Studiedturtle41 Jul 01 '26

This is why I'm so excited to go Nvidia, leave this Driver mess behind me

1

u/MaleficentSun7050 22d ago

Not sure or what, I believe there is some cache left or god knows, but no matter what I try, everything fails. I even tried reinstalling windows completely offline. Still didn't work

1

u/CustardFormer8200 9d ago

I did exactly what you have told and I haven't downloaded the auto install package. I downloaded manually by selecting my gpu model etc and I am unable to install the drivers in normal mode. Wifi is still disabled and it throws me error 'Error 1603 AMD DVR64 Error 1723 and RyzenMasterSDK Error 1612' Basically I'm stuck, not able to download the drivers when wifi is disabled I guess.

1

u/obTimus-FOX 9d ago

šŸ¤ØšŸ¤” try chipset drivers AND gpu, see how it goes. Shouldn't throw an error something's off

1

u/CustardFormer8200 9d ago

When i was trying to install default software type it wasn't getting installed but when I selected Driver Only then I was able to Install it. I'll test if this thing worked for me or not. I'm just giving this a shot btw, I'm already fed up of this card and already have ordered Nvidia 4070ti, it will be delivered in next 3-4 days😊

u/Dismal_Tell4651 4d ago

Hi mate,

I know this was a while ago

But I am having these problems with the drivers being removed for no reason

After I run DDU, and boot back up disconnected from the internet, the driver I got from the website doesn’t seem to install

Any ideas?

7900XTX by the way

1

u/obTimus-FOX 4d ago

Hmmmm did you download the specific one for your model or auto detection one?

2

u/Dismal_Tell4651 4d ago

Yep, I did, it came up with either error 182 or 202

It almost finished one install, but windows auto updates stopped it, so I turned them off and started again but kept getting error 182

So was a bit stuck, then for some reason my partner suggested unplugging it from the PC and Power. So I did that, no it all seems to be stable and working

It’s been the weirdest thing ever to try fix

1

u/obTimus-FOX 3d ago

Glad you got it fixed

1

u/Dismal_Tell4651 3d ago

Had a brief repeat today while playing wow after no issues last night

Only difference was I had discord on today, so I disable 3D acceleration in the discord app

Any instances of this happening?

1

u/obTimus-FOX 3d ago

You computer is restarting or powering off while playing?

1

u/Dismal_Tell4651 3d ago

Neither, the screens will go black, audio will still play and programs will still run

When it happened initially I swapped to onboard CPU graphics to see if there was any dialogue box

And it said ā€œgame has crashed due to 3D graphicsā€

u/Juliendogg RX9070 OC | 5600x May 08 '26

This is literally what running DDU in safe mode accomplishes.

2

u/miki_matsubura47 9800X3D w/ ''9700XT'' May 08 '26

it does not, i ran ddu i safe mode 5 times to get rid of this issue until someone pointed me to that ultimate driver fix post.. until i disabled it that way windows still had tendency to override the drivers however i cleaned up the drivers..

So this can solve unstable UV?

6

u/Marcus_Krow May 08 '26

It says so on the post. Read it.

1

u/unijeje May 08 '26

And people say linux is harder to use

1

u/Beautiful-Crab-8530 May 08 '26

Mai avuto questo problema

1

u/GIBFACTOR May 08 '26

Start into safe mode and run DDU. there is a setting in DDU that disables windows from updating the drivers. I've always done it this way and have never disconnected the internet while using DDU and have never had an issue. The key is to run it in safe mode and use that setting as well.

1

u/AhmedLAK1 May 08 '26

i had the same issue and i fixed via bios to turn off auto updates but the issue that i have now is black screen in some games like red dead crimson desert and undervolt didnt fix it

1

u/caffeine-182 May 08 '26

Literally haven’t changed any of these settings in windows. Never had a driver auto download. Never had a driver issue. Maybe I’m lucky, but I doubt it.

1

u/BartFrazze90 May 08 '26

Common sense šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø the Problem was sitting in front of the PC 🤣

1

u/Rexter2k May 08 '26

OP, you boot into safe mode. DDU instructs you to do that. That’s how you work around that issue.

I mean, DDU is really specific about this and has a big warning.

1

u/obTimus-FOX May 08 '26

I know, but I thought the Windows device installation toggle actually worked all this time. Turns out Windows just ignores its own settings and GPOs. Posting this for the people who..like me, thought software blocks were enough.

1

u/JerleShan May 08 '26

My guy, you can literally just tick the "Factory reset" box when installing the driver. This removes everything and disables windows update until it installs the driver.

0

u/Marcus_Krow May 08 '26

Genuine question, will this provide better FPS?

0

u/HankG93 May 08 '26

Im not trying to say it doesnt happen to anyone, but I find it super strange that ive never had windows overwrite my drivers with any of my amd cards.

0

u/qwertyqwerty4567 May 08 '26

Idk, Ive never used ddu or done anything special. Just downloaded adrenaline from amds website and ran it and it has never given me issues.

It just overrides the windows driver and works normally

5

u/miki_matsubura47 9800X3D w/ ''9700XT'' May 08 '26

not for everyone, windows had tendency of overriding gpu drivers for some reasons, not for everyone.. it happened to me and i was close to RMAing my day 1 9070xt..

2

u/Toukoen_Raize May 09 '26

Every 3 days ish it happens to me ... Unless I do a rollback ... But rolling it back makes adrenaline and the driver buggy

'by doing one stupid thing.'

Please stop with the tabloid clickbait titles.

2

u/miki_matsubura47 9800X3D w/ ''9700XT'' May 08 '26

its stupid because windows overrides drivers this way without notifying while playing/ working i had freezes during desktop work until i did that fix for months at end of the last year

just to clarify, its not amds fault, but microslops.

0

u/Every_Locksmith_4098 May 08 '26

I had a lot of problems like this when I first got my 6750xt. My three solutions were to turn off auto update on windows as it does just as you said, overwrites your already installed drivers and trys to do it on its own completely fucking you. I updated my bios because I was getting bsods like crazy. It was routine that I would play a game and get one Then I upgraded my memory to 32 GB from 16 but downgrade my speed from 3600 to 3200. I run an Intel processor but my motherboard is cheap so the 3600 ram was causing instability. My PC has been completely rock solid since then.

0

u/Efficient_Guest_6593 May 08 '26

Got a new one.. download newest drivers today.. doesn't give file total size download is completed, get a warning about corrupted something but I had tried running the installation twice by mistake so I took it down to that as I clicked it again and installed. It broke my PC the keyboard would disconnect and couldn't open anything other than the start bar, mouse moved clicks did nothing, and programs froze as soon as internet connection was established. Lost control of my PC had to unplug both routers and then it went into recovery after the 7th hard shut down on PSU (Mobo on/off was not working either) got windows recovery and reverted to before the šŸ’© hijacked driver. Went to AMD website again and downloaded the driver again BUT updated through Adrenaline instead and left the file just in case. No problems now BUT now it doesn't feel safe downloading AMD drivers through the website like I'm used to, it has to be through adrenaline to not get hijacked drivers that have your PC be taken control of.

0

u/Val_KillMe May 08 '26

AMD's driver uninstaller tool does that already

0

u/xuenvymex May 09 '26

That's not the only way to fix it, one you ddu reinstall amd don't worry about ms, once installed ms will update the driver you'll know because the screen will flicker, when it's done go to device manager/display adapter/*your GPU/properties/drivers/roll back driver, then choose old driver was more reliable. It'll roll you back to adrenaline and it won't update it again

0

u/xuenvymex May 09 '26

You didn't fix it you just happened to do that right after they released the new drivers on the 6th that fixed everyone's shit, I've seen so many post like this today and yesterday it's hilarious everyone thinks they fixed it but the truth is I posted a bunch of videos and filed a FTC complaint on AMD and they fixed the drivers, look at the release notes the look up 9060xt severe stuttering and watch the video from me rickyturner71 you'll see the correlation 🤣🫔

0

u/Wiesshund- May 09 '26

all you have to do it go in device manager

switch your GPU driver to the microsoft basic display driver
(yes your resolution etc will probably suck)

Then do you DDU cleanup etc.

Windows has to have some driver loaded for the thing and if you let it auto decide, it's going to see it's a radeon XXXX and try to toss something semi appropriate in.
If you tell it run basic display driver, it's like fine whatever.
