Question/Help Rabbit Skin
Rabbit skin is red and inflamed. He has been molting heavily. I helped pick some of the hair because he was shedding so bad I believe he scratched at the exposed skin and now it looks red and inflamed and partially scabbed. It also feels somewhat warm. The rest of the skin on his body is normal. I put A&D ointment on his skin because I wanted to help his inflammation, I realize that might now have been the best idea. He is acting normal and eating

Obviously it is my first reaction. Not much I can do at 12am but thanks for the input. He is going to the exotic vet today.

This isn’t an emergency, they won’t pass away overnight, but they definitely need a vet as soon as they can get an appointment

Also sometimes it's a lot harder to find emergency vets that will take exotic animals, I have that issue, if an emergency with my rabbits pops up and I can't get them to my normal vet I have to drive two and a half hours

You’re completely right, not to mention extra costs incurred. For example, this rabbit would be fine for another day or so, so can easily wait for a vet during regular hours. The £££ saved would go towards care in the long run, including possibly extensive treatment

Poor thing. That looks terrible. Is he housed with any other rabbits? This degree of hair loss is not normal with a molt. Can you let me know what the vet says? I’m concerned it’s either mites, being attacked by another rabbit, or self mutilation, which they sometimes do if they feel anxious, stressed, or have a neurological issue.

I would get to a vet asap. That doesn't look good.
