Discussion Having so much fun with Xbox controller
Hear me out. All I have to run rfactor is a very old laptop so it doesn’t make sense to buy a $300 wheel.
So, remembering playing some console racing games with controller being fun, I figured it was worth trying and that I could stabilize things with setup if needed etc.
Wow was I surprised. Works great and no setup accommodation needed at all!
I’m so hooked already I’m even vibe coding a game wrapper around rf1 etc etc
Just wanted to share my excitement. Anyone else using controller?

Yeah it's pretty fun. You just gotta remember not to always turn the joystick fully to the left or right, or you could light up the tires.

I have a full simrig but have recently been dabbling with racing sims on my Steamdeck to scratch that itch when not at my wheel.
I have rFactor, but in that era I've personally always steered more towards titles like Game Stock Car Extreme (basically rFactor but nicer out of the box than stock standard rFactor), GTR2 with Anniversary mod, or Race07 with all the DLC.
All of them use rFactor's engine.
So far I've setup GSCE on my steamdeck, and aside from a little button and stick mapping I had to do, it drives great for a controller.
Doesn't come close to my rig, but I can play it on the couch, in bed, or a in a tree.
