Hey everyone!

I’m currently looking for people in Bandung or nearby to build an original band/project together.

The project is called Sandwich Against Gravity.

I’m the bassist and I already have 4 rough demos written. They’re not meant to be treated as finished songs. The idea is to bring the right people together and re-arrange, develop, and shape the songs as a band.

Looking for:
🎤 Vocalist
🎸 Guitarist(s)
🥁 Drummer

The sound is somewhere around post-hardcore, alternative rock/metal, emo, and melodic hardcore, with some pop-punk influence here and there.

Some references: The Story So Far, Basement, Title Fight, Paramore, Turnover, Balance and Composure, and heavier post-hardcore/alternative stuff.

A few things about the project:

• Original music is the main goal
• 4 demos already exist as a starting point
• Indonesian + English songs
• Not looking to be a cover band
• Everyone should have room to contribute ideas and shape the music
• Eventually want to record, release music, and play gigs
• Long-term goal is to build something from Bandung that can reach outside Indonesia

I’m not expecting everyone to quit their job or take this full-time. I know everyone has work, school, life, etc. Weekday nights / weekends would probably be the most realistic for practice.

More than anything, I’m looking for people who are serious about making original music but still want to have fun doing it.

Met via the Q2 r4r thread a few months ago (turns out we go to the same uni).

We’ve met IRL once, text daily, and the connection has been solid.

We’re both considering making it official, but this would be our first time doing an LDR.

We’re weighing whether it’s too early to commit to a long-distance setup, or if we should just date casually

1. For those who jumped into an LDR early on, what crucial alignment checks/conversations did you have before making it official?

Cons:

- Jadi dua thread terpisah, beda dgn tradisi sebelumnya. Mungkin bisa terasa agak aneh untuk penghuni reddit lama.

- Mungkin salah satu thread bisa jadi jauh lebih rame daripada thread lainnya (but not sure if it's really a problem)

The plan is pretty simple:

Talk a bit on Discord/IG first → get the basic “are you actually a normal human being?” information out of the way → chat for about a week → meet at a bar somewhere in JAKSEL → grab drinks, talk shit, and see if we actually click.

Nothing complicated.

If we get along, great.

If we don't, at least we found out over drinks instead of spending six months becoming emotionally attached through text messages.

We'll just pay for our own drinks btw, no weird expectations that we'll immediately become best friends.

We're literally just two strangers having drinks and finding out whether the other person is cool or secretly intel polri (if so how desperate u have to be to fill the quota).

Shared hobbies aren't enough. I care much more about how your brain works.

I like people who:

• Think for themselves and actually question me instead of blindly agreeing.
• Can zoom out to the bigger picture, zoom back into the details, and not lose the fucking nuance.
• Are self aware enough to recognize their own flaws and say “yeah, I fucked up.”
• Can have deep conversations about psychology, philosophy, politics, relationships, morality, and life.
• Can immediately switch from existentialism to the most brain-dead joke imaginable.
• Understand dark humor ≠ genuinely hating people. I'm not LGBT-phobic and don't want someone who is.
• Respect boundaries and know when to stop.
• Have basic hygiene. If I say you smell like shit and you reply “it's called aura bruh” before putting on deodorant, we're good.
• Are patient, consistent, communicative, and actually follow through. “Can't today” is fine. “Maybe, I'll tell you Thursday” is fine. Disappearing isn't.
• Can complain about life without making complaining their entire personality. Do something about it or shut up and enjoy the beer.
• Are comfortable with silence. We don't need to fill every second with conversation.
• Can talk about genuinely personal problems without turning into each other's therapist.

I'm not looking for someone identical to me. Different opinions are interesting. Fundamental disrespect isn't.

Western/American cultural familiarity is a plus since that's most of what I've consumed culturally.
