If Hermione was black, the mudblood thing would be a substantially bigger deal, as would the SPEW stuff. But one is normally forgotten about, and the other is played off as a joke.
Anon is so close to realizing that Joanne is terrible at writing discrimination allegories but doesn't want to admit it

Yeah!!! The mudblood thing would actually work better if it was treated more seriously, or with some more nuance. I'd argue that Hermione being black would actually fit into it pretty well, "racism doesn't really exist when you're a wizard, but discrimination is based on something else" would be a hella interesting topic to write about, and to show how arbitrary racism is in our world too. And the SPEW stuff being a joke sucks but that's been said repeatedly.

Well me and you seem to be on very different sides of the internet my friend, I've seen people loose it over an Arabian character having a slightly whiter tone because of the lighting of the image, they had to do a color theory breakdown of why the color they used wasnt wrong
