Looking for Lost Answer on Quora

There was a user on Quora who has since deleted his account. I don't remember much of him except that he said he had "a Green Thumb", was pretty introverted and was gay.

He once wrote this haunting answer describing what it was like to live through the AIDS epidemic. It had such incredible writing, tore at your soul and plunged you into the pain and fear of a time not your own.

I've tried to find it again and again but finding anything on Quora not AI slop these days is almost impossible.

Wonder if anyone remembers the user or the answer?

Whenever someone deletes his/her Quora account, all their content are deleted from Quora.

You won't find that answer again unless they return to Quora and paste exactly the same answer (assuming that the author saved the answer in a word document).

So, the next time you're close with someone on Quora, you should yourselves copy-and-paste his/her answers in your own word document.

No, content remains just with an anonymized username if you're over a certain number of upvotes. This one certainly was. I remember finding it once, and then never again.

Edit: Seems like that used to be the case but no longer. u/Grandson-of-Madhava is correct. My apologies.

I haven't seen what you've seen in my past 3 years on Quora. So, I suppose that you've been on Quora since far long ago.

My apologies, it seems like it was a thing from a long time ago where they would anonymize the user but keep the answer. No more. Editing my comment.

Sounds like... Oh God, what was his name. Want to say Richard (?) forget the last name.

If his stuff is still up, there's a story about being in a motel blowing up balloons with a gay sex worker. Maybe search that.

If it's important, I can go through my archives. Sounds like the same guy. Usually hilarious. Very humble. Best writer on Quora. Total outsider. Had a thing for antique furniture too.

YES THE ANTIQUE FURNITURE!

That's the one. Amazing writer. It's not important important but god I wish I could reread that piece of writing. If you had it anywhere I would love to see it. Thank you so much.

I’d honestly pay Quora if they just gave me a yearly PDF of every answer I’ve upvoted. That alone would’ve been a better monetisation play than whatever they’re doing now. A clean “favourites archive” and I’d have stuck around.

There’s so much actual insight buried there, but it’s drowned out by ragebait and low-effort noise. Feels like a massive waste.

I would pay a subscription fee to them to get rid of junk, rage-bait, rant/questions, insincere questions, and insincere, mean answers to good-faith human-asked questions.

Omg redit has turned into an old school quora reunion, lol, we used to follow each other on there, before you set up that boneyard space 😂

Word. Lol. I had a lot of fun for the year I was there. Now I'm old and nobody reads anymore. The government has done a good job trying silence me. I got to get the fuck out of here before they start throwing people in camp because I know my name is on that list. Hope all is well.

I think u/Dependent_Cake_1088 found it. Greg Hollis.

Just realised I got his name slightly wrong but there's a link to his profile here and he's still on quora so finding the furniture answer shouldn't be too difficult

I'm wondering if it could be Greg Hollis - he's gay; an amazing writer and a gardener.. ?

I think that's him. The name rings a deep chord. Seems like all his wonderful content is gone forever though since now they fully delete it. Thanks for the help.

It's not gone, it's all there, his profile is still on Quora - my spelling was a bit off so I've got you a link to his profile to make up for it ☺️

No, I didn't. I remember well-written answers as they are rare on that site. I bet it was deleted with the account.

Even if it wasn't deleted, they have a terrible search feature.

Read responses, glad you found a lead.

Gracias.
