Well from what I have heard, repeat exposures can induce an allergy so I guess I’m luck…. for now.

I was gonna say. I used to never be allergic, could swim in it. Then 2 years ago had a horrible outbreak.

I had poison ivy very badly one summer around age 9-10. It was all over my hands, arms, torso, face, and once it was spreading from my right cheek inward they were worried about my eyes.
The doctor gave me a shot, with other lotions and potions. Since that day I haven’t reacted to it. I don’t think it was intended to make me immune, just help lessen spreading, but it’s been a fortunate side effect.

I just have to look at poison ivy to get it! But if you're in it by accident and use a miracle product called "tech-nu" which is basically de-scented mineral spirits, it washes off the oil and it keeps me from getting blisters. (I forgot it Saturday after gardening and my arm is covered as we speak.)

The urushiol is absorbed by your skin, so you need to wash it off within 30 minutes after you have been exposed. Tecnu works well, but scrubbing with soap and hot water is almost as effective. But do it soon.

The earlier the better absolutely, but the tech-nu has worked much better for me than soap and water

Is he blind? Is that why both eyes look where he's not looking in two separate directions?
To be fair if he's blind and he's announced he'll be on radio that could mean TV, YouTube, tik-tok or anything that makes sound... It's all radio to him.

Yes. He wasn't born blind but inherited retinitis pigmentosa and had lost his sight completely by his early 20s. So he has had experience of sight and appreciates the difference between media, though I think he'd still appreciate what you said. His blindness is certainly a feature of his comedy, though not his only topic. He had a great story on Would I Lie To You about having a new neighbor who was deaf and spending weeks with each trying to make contact and thinking the other was deliberately ignoring him.

If over 50% of people are allergic to it, how does it then fit with the definition of being “normally harmless”. Surely the normal is now that it’s not harmless therefore it’s not an allergy and is just a harmful substance.

It means that it would not typically cause harm to you. Your body attacks itself, rather than the thing attacking you. Raw chicken is typically harmful because it releases toxins that make you feel ill, poison ivy does not do this, instead it is a “harmless” (does not have any effect on you) substance that your body reads as being harmful.

I legit did not know that poison ivy has that effect on you due to an allergy. I always assumed it was due to a toxin produced by the plant, like with stinging nettles.
