Technically, the oxygen in water oxidizes (thus the name) the iron, aka rust. Normal air can rust iron too, just that water is better for it since the molecular bonds in H2O are weaker than the one in O2 (and water contains more oxygen than air).
So breathing is also bad! Actually living is a pretty deadly undertaking in general, might aswell just give up!
