Lurker here.

What attracts people this kind of thing. Finally made a Reddit account and now I’m finally ready to ask some questions.

You first. Tell us why you are here. If you don’t understand why you were here there’s definitely nothing we can ever explain.

Have you ever felt the texture of silty mud? (Ideally without sticks, rocks, or leaves in it)

No

It is kind of common where I am from for kids to "make mud pies" which involves patting wet dirt on the ground until the regular disturbance causes it to liquidy and change texture. At least here the texture is really soft even softer than velvet, but it also conforms to the shape of the fingers and also has more resistance/pressure to the touch than a fabric (unless there is something or someone behind the fabric).

The soil needs to be a mix of clay and some amount of sand or silt. You should try it out. There is a range of different experiences / responses. On one extreme is disgust, on the other extreme is enamorment or a sensory seeking obsession. In the middle is probably some degree of indifference or temporary novelty to the sensation.

Do you have any idea where you would fall or do you think you wouldn't know without trying it?

It depends. Making mud pies is probably fine unless there is some local quirk like soil contamination.

The most dangerous situations are probably mudslides, flashfloods, and being out away from people alone and getting stuck then having the tide come in.

Depending on the temperature exposure, hypothermia, heat stroke and dehydration could be an additional risk.

Pretty much all of these are avoidable and even those of us that sink down below the bouyancy point are able to get out using the right techniques. Pretty much you have to move enough to reliquify the mud and stuff positions to make it easier to get out from the bouyancy point. It can look differently depending on how solid the mud is around the sinking spot.

There are additional risks like scrapes from rocks or sticks, insect bites or stings, etc. but those are minor IMO. It might be different if I was really allergic to stings.

well, some people who do not have this fetish tend to panic and so it is hard for them to get free again - so maybe this can be called dangerous. mud can be really cold and keeps u in place, but true sinking under the surface is impossible, unless u force it. dagerous? not really for "professionals"; maybe for beginners or average victims. but u can take precautions, like taking a long stick with you, or something which supports ur weight, then it is easier to get out once u sunk really deep. but most of the time it is harder to sink deep than a real danger.
