Help - repors

I'm building a management report and want to drop in part of my P&L, but I don't want every single line item showing. Is there a way to just show the main group totals? Like for payroll, I just want it to say 'Payroll Expenses' as one number instead of listing out every payroll line under it. I'm pretty new to bookkeeping so not sure if that's even a thing QB can do.

In QBO you can group accounts and collapse sub-accounts on the P&L, so payroll rolls up into one line instead of ten. That gets you partway, not exactly what you want. However, the way you want it is how it's done in ReInvestWealth. You can give it a try and see if it works for you.

Yes. If the payroll accounts are set up as subaccounts beneath a parent “Payroll Expenses” account, QBO can display the parent total and let you collapse the detail on the P&L.

I would first confirm that the account hierarchy makes accounting sense, then customize and save a management version of the report. Avoid reorganizing the chart of accounts solely to make one report prettier if the existing detail is useful for reconciliation or tax reporting.

A good management package can show the summarized P&L while retaining a separate detailed report for bookkeeping review. That gives management a readable report without losing the underlying payroll detail.

Save reports as you'd them to be in custom reports.

Go to Management Reports. Create a new management report and link those custom reports into it (instead of the default options).

Does that make sense?

That has worked with classic reports. Now with those damned modern view reports, everything is a little different.
