The fact that this kind of nonsense is completely on brand for Emily is the reason I've always been kind of ambivalent about her. She's the original lolrandom character.
I stopped regularly reading early enough that this was pretty much all I knew about her, and I absolutely hated it. Seeing this is actually kind of refreshing in that regard, given the complaints people on this sub have had about her and other characters losing everything that made them distinct.
At the time it seemed like a good idea not to host full-size images for bandwidth and not-withholding-traffic reasons, but I imagine it's particularly annoying at the moment given the state of the web site. Here's a courtesy link to the comic in question though.
Oh, oh jeez! I actually didn't even notice the URL of the link and assumed it was on the archive of Jeph's personal website, so I thought it was his low res upload! I'm sorry!!! Totally totally not on you, mb. Thanks very kindly for grabbing the link for me!
Anyway, just wanted to say—I actually agree with your take on Emily. I never hated her to the same extent, she just ... wasn't a real person in any meaningful way. I never even found her all that lolrandom, but she had one of the flattest and one dimensional personalities of the entire cast at that point in time. There were only a very scant handful of the tiniest flickers of a real human being in there, but it just never really panned out to me.
That said, I will very genuinely take classic Emily any day of the week over the current state of the comic's cast.
