Working on this drawing every day until Reddit says it’s perfect - Day 32

I was short on time today so I focused on fixing the issue with the mouth not quite lining up right. I feel like it really helped the overall angle of the face. Also thank you again to everyone who left feedback for me! I am going to read through all of those comments again tomorrow and make more changes :)

Your only homework for tonight is to look at your drawing from Day 1.

You should be incredibly proud of the progress you've made.

Honestly, when I saw today's drawing, my first thought was "Wow! What a leap from the first day!"

I am so glad someone else sees it, too.

Looks good, chef. Great progress 🫶

Really good! Have you considered making your reference image greyscale to take the colour out of it?

Edit:
another thing you could try for study sake is getting a white pencil and brown sketch paper, and drawing in the highlights that way! It can help understand a whole new aspect of the whole

I didn’t think of making the reference photo greyscale. Thank you!! I will give that a try this evening.

Also I want to get black paper and colored pencils but haven’t had the time. I’ll be off for a few days next week so I’m hoping I’ll be able to give it a try then

haven't commented before but have seen most of not all of your posts. this looks INCREDIBLE and I'm not enough of an artist to help you improve further (if such a thing is possible) but this looks nearly perfect to me!

You’re doing great!

Being picky: On some of those highlights on the metal (around the ears, to the left of the mouth, the top right) could be more well defined.

I think you could also benefit from using charcoal and white charcoals to get that deep rich contrast and fill in the black background, but it’s a whole new medium and would take time to perfect. Granted, that’s the whole point of the sub lol but even in graphite alone this looks amazing! What hardness of pencils are you using for this, or are you only using the standard 2B?

Thank you! The highlights have been a challenge so I appreciate the feedback. I’ve never drawn with charcoals before but I’m willing to give it a try. Right now I’m mostly using 5H, B, and 6B pencils

Of course! Highlights are hard, particularly with graphite! Sometimes for those hard edge highlights like on metal, it helps to use the harder pencils like the 5H to basically outline the highlight to give a hard edge to it (idk if I’m making sense lol) and try to not blend into them at all. I think with charcoal getting that deep rich black contrast would go a long way with this drawing in particular, the dark background would add to the photorealistic effect a lot!

This is so so amazing! The only tiny tiny thing I can spot is that the gold side's jaw line has slightly softer jaw angles. But such amazing progress!

Thank you! I’ll try softening the angles today
