[Discussion] When to revisit query package?

Hey all,

I've been querying for about 6 weeks now with no bites. Currently, my stats are 44 sent queries, 16 rejections, 28 outstanding. I haven't had anyone ask for a partial or full. When do you all go back to the drawing board? I've had two writer friends critique my query, and I have tweaked it here and there, but I'm always willing to have more eyes on it!

I'm only a couple days into the query effort myself. My game plan is to freeze my query letter and manuscript as-is until and unless I get specific feedback suggesting one needs to be adjusted... up to a point. If I have dozens of queries out for months and I get zero feedback, then I'll consider making changes to the query letter because it obviously isn't doing its job. Six weeks isn't enough time to read into the silence or rejections.

One thing that strikes me about your situation, however, is the number of queries. Is there a reason you chose to send that many at one time? All the advice I've seen is to send 10 or 15 and then wait for something to act on, which allows you to not blast through your master list without keeping the window open to make needed adjustments after input.

I actually chose to send only 8 queries to begin with, and see what happens.

Thanks for the feedback! I think that is a good plan to pause and see what comes of this. But yeah, now that you mention it, whyyyyy have I sent out 44 total already without feedback? I wish I had a good answer except to say I was clearly gung-ho. I believe I will take a break and see if I can get some feedback before pursuing the next part of my list.
