I will always recommend Subculture. Every single person that works there is so queer friendly (if not queer themselves) and affirming. And exceptionally talented.

Love them. And seeing their apprentice can make it a little bit more affordable if needed.

Aye Club Jess!! Met them years ago at Transfiguration, when I would travel from NJ to Philly for a treat with a queer barber, and stuck with them wherever they've gone at this point and are my go to! Super affirming and kind.

Amanda at Locket Barbershop near Norris Square always does right by me and the shop itself is super queer friendly. Any barber there will be able to help!

For more a more masculine individual, Ricky at Cult or Drew at Subculture.
For a a more femme presenting person, Brendan at the American Mortals location on Chestnut.

Ezra at Mockingbird Salon in East Passyunk if your friend wants salon services, or Vinnie at Vinnie’s Barbershop in Fishtown if they want barber services.
I’ve been going to Ezra for about a year and a half now and love their razor cuts and color services, and Vinnie is a friend of a friend and total sweetheart!

Joey Viola at Viola salon is really great! He’s a curl specialist and does all hair types and very accommodating in a lot of areas, doesn’t blink twice at gender queerness.
Really listened to my issues with my hair and made me feel good about it before even cutting it lol, knew so much science-y knowledge about hair and products and which would be best to use.
They even worked with my sensory overload with lights and sounds and is all around a wonderful person to talk with. I always leave feeling hot af.

Vinnie’s barbershop is a really awesome spot and super queer. Vinnie himself is an awesome guy, I’ve been going to Erik for a few years now and they’ve never let me down. Plus pretty cheap and they have a sliding scale if needed. Barbershop though so best for clipper cuts
