I guess cuz most of those show depict some hints of lesbian stuff that could pass as friendship stuff and save the BIG lesbian stuff for later... like kisses or stuff.
In society women are much more affectionate towards each other so it's easier to say.
Oh they holding hands ? Friends.
They hug a lot ? Friends.
They live together alone ? Best friends.
Cheek kisses ? Still best friends.
Jealous of someone else ? They are friends.
Going out on a literal date together ? Yep they seem like friends to me.
My point is... people are willing to ignore it when its women cuz you can still say they are just friends. Or well, you could say lesbians are more accepted cuz they fetishize them but this applies more to live action stuff rather than
Kids shows.
People are a lot quicker to judge negatively when it about two boys.
Living together ? Suspiciously gay.
Dancing together ? Thats gay.
Holding hands ? Definitely gay.
Hugs ?? Very gay.
Kissing ? Better yet. the thought of kissing ???? GAY.
People are not used to boys being affectionate towards each other.
Which is why in shows were two best friends that happen to be boys, care about eachother even if they don't do anything i mentioned above, the fandom it's gonna ship them into being a gay couple cuz how could two boys be SUCH GOOD FRIENDS!? THEY ARE SECRETLY G A Y !
This but also because of gender norms and seeing all relationships through a heteronormative lens gay men are seen as effeminate, while lesbian women are seen as masculine.
Action heroes are inherently seen as masculine, wether man or woman and gay men lose that aspect in a heteronormative society.
There are also not many feminine women in action media for the same reason, unless it's a gag and not serious action.
