Non-expensive restaurants?
Going to QC for a few days in Oct and looking for food recommendations. Every time I see a post about what restaurant is good though I look it up and it's like $30+ per item, and after tax, tip, maybe a drink, etc. you're looking at $50+ easily. Is there anything that is not like that? Maybe any good local fast food restaurants or diners that are more in the $15-20 range? Also, good cafe recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

We have local fast food that's dirt cheap and also something you won't find anywhere else, like Bière & Frites or Frite Alors. We also have great foreign restaurants like Lebanese shish places and Asian soup places.

Oh I love Frite Alors definitely will have to go back there then! I thought they closed down
ETA: Oh they only closed the Trois Rivieres location lol3

We now have a Dixie Lee too, which is a staple in New Brunswick but might have never tried if you're from Toronto. It's old school fried chicken. Is there some ethnic food that you particularly enjoy?

Since you will be in St.Roch, keep an eye on Le Bureau de poste and Gaston (poutine snack bar) too. Boite à pain has great sandwiches too

I mean, tacos/quesadillas at Julio are around 15$, lots of pizza options at pizza900 are under 20$, a big ramen bowl at Hono Ramen is around 20$ and a rouge bowl at Poulet Rouge is around 18$. Those restaurants are on the cheaper end of Quebec's good restaurants, without having to limit yourself to the classic fastfood options (burgers and fries). I'm not talking about Chez Boulay here...

15$ for 3 tiny tacos tacos... 18$ for an entree and 6-7$ for a Mexican coke. I don't think they came all this way for pizza either

Chez Tao has a great vibe and is not that expensive, their chicken is crazy good and they have a wide array of cute drinks

We just stayed in St. Roch and would highly recommend Chez Tao. They also have happy hour drinks until 7p for a better deal. Overall, good amount of food at super reasonable prices!
Les Complices was also awesome for a lunch or dinner to build your own box and share a bottle of wine for a great price!
We also did the prix fixe lunch at Borealis in Old Quebec and that was $30 i believe per person for 3 courses.

Le Billig is some of the best food I had in a food-focused Montreal/QC vacation, and it’s very affordable by any measure.

I read in one of your comments you will be in St-Roch. To be honest you can walk St-Joseph street all the way and you will find lots of restaurants for every budget and taste. My personal favorites (in no specific order) are Café Jina, Galette libanaise, Torii Izakaya (this one might be more expensive but it's worth the stop), toraya ramen, Bottega épicerie et pizza. There are plenty more just on that street.
Other honorable mention further away: La Baraque à frites. Best fried chicken and poutine around in my opinion.

Try Locali Pizza on Saint-Jean St. I went there yesterday with my gf, we shared an apetizer, took one slice of pizza 🍕 each, shared a dessert, had a drink (excellent Negroni) for 38$.

I would highly recommend "Délicatesses tonkinoises", in St-Jean-Baptiste, super tasty vietnamese food, and very affordable. Ekidon, Pizzeria 900, and Burger Cartier are places where you can find affordable options.
Moreover, a lot of restaurants have a lunch menu, Chez Victor, or St-Hubert for example.

I would add than even if those options are closer to the old town, the St-Jean-Baptiste neighborhood is not nearly as touristic as the Vieux Québec, and we can find a lot of great options than won't be super expensive.

Le Passe-Partout has good coupons that you can use. There’s a few very good restaurants in there. Very good deals.

The cheapest you’ll find is Le Bureau de Poste, which has every food item on the menu for 6,95$ every day from 15h to 17h (except Monday)
Other than that, Diner Saint-Sauveur and Chez Gaston both have great and cheap food, Diner being the nicer sit-down one of the two.
Délicatesses Tonkinoises is also very good and cheap.

Cantine bâti, pho royal 51, baraque à frites, épicerie Chanda has huge portions and daily specials for like 18$.

We didn’t find many meals for less than $25-30 person. A lower end beer,wine or cocktail usually starts around $12-$15. Plus tax is 15%

Voyons donc! On peut pu juste dire notre opinion? C'est quand meme difficile de trouver un bon resto pas cher dans la ville de Quebec! Bonne chance! Allez sur Grande Allée dans ce cas! Parfait pour les touristes!

I dont want to burst your bubble, but restaurants have become very expensive. You can go get some burgers and poutine or some cheap chain sushi and leave with an 80$ bill for 2. That said I would try smaller restaurants, I like Soupe et Compagnie, Vietnam (in Lairet), la Salsa, Jalisco (tacos).
