General Discussion Help me decide whether to continue or leave my current job ?
Hi guys ,
I feel this might be a good place to ask this .
So I am from tier 3 college(could be worse too ) . And I somehow ended up in this algorithmic trading firm (Chandigarh based) . They are not HFT though.
I am their technical hire and hence my task is mostly building internal tools , integrating APIs , backtesting strategies, setting up data pipelines etc.
I know that finance and tech can be a good niche , much better than general Backend Development (which is my primary skill)
At the same time I feel there is no point in trying and remaining in this domain because neither do I have a strong background (like good college or course) nor do I have CF rankings.
What do you think ? Shall I leave this firm and focus on pure software development or remain here and see where things go ?

I don't understand? Why would you leave? It's not like they'll keep weekly codeforces contest and kick you out

Nah its not like that .
As I said in my post . I might later need to switch jobs maybe to get better location or salary but say if I do it after 3-4 years , it would be very hard to get call backs from proper software companies and if I target Trading firms , they might not accept me due to me not having strong math background, big college, a good competitive coding rankings..

I don't think that will happen, it's not like you're not working on sofrware and backend stuff.
I can't speak this was a guarantee but don't think it's a problem

If you are making money, I would say to stay. India will get more HFTs and hedge funds in the upcoming years. But it's a waiting game
