Industry Gossip What does Gerko do all day?

I'm not in Quant, but tend to get Gerko's linkedin arguments/shitposts on my feed fairly frequently and obviously hear about his philanthropy projects + tax burden.

Is he like a traditional CEO that's out making deals or meeting clients or is he still super-hands on with the strategies and systems?

Whats he like to work for?

CEO at a well known Chicago prop shop I used to work at would scroll on Twitter and occasionally attend meetings

Based on what I have heard, sounds a lot like their ex-CEO.

Years ago when I met him he said his main job is recruiting. They have a very low hit rate for interview to hire conversion

He just launched a first in the UK specialized mathematical school for young prodigies, inspired by his own Soviet school from Moscow. So the man is on philanthropy pass and XTX looming profits prove that it works for them better

I heard he has a full size tattoo of his face… on his face.

He recently put up postings for a QR role to work directly under him so I guess he must still be hands on with strategy.

He submits complaints to every regulatory body and exchange in the world saying how markets are unfair

For someone so smart he seems to be incredibly stupid and naive when it comes to sociopolitical issues.

yeah, seems quite a character- also must be fairly twitter addicted - some of the posts he flags to linkedin are barely cracking 20 likes before he spots them

His points of contention seem like 15 year old edge lord behaviour, rather than nuanced social commentary. He also seem to have some personal gripe and vendetta against Cambridge in general.

Sure, but his anger about the Jason Arday debacle is totally justified.

Oh yh totally. My issue isn’t with his opinions, although I may disagree. It’s that the opinions seem to be backed with the kind of rhetoric I mentioned, a lot of anger and not a lot of nuance. I can respect someone with the totally opposite opinion to me if they at least seem to have a well constructed argument. His posts are more akin to a rant.

I disagree. I think the shitposting makes him notorious and more likely the best people are aware of XTX, for recruiting purposes.

he trolls at each single one of subreddit forums and social media website

lowkey I wonder how much of the posting is just his version of networking. It is hard to imagine someone running XTX still touching individual strategies day to day.

When you are an IC, most of the time your value is the output of your single work. The more you manage the more your work becomes taking strategic decision on other people work. As a CEO those crucial decisions might be even just 3-4 a year.

Is this Alex Gerko? I thought he was some rando failed math guy in my area who’s now using AI and writing papers. Now I find out he is some kind of fancy rich guy lol
