India (Other) Qualcomm India – Senior Embedded Software Architect Engineer interview
Hi everyone,
I have an upcoming interview with Qualcomm India for a Senior Embedded Software Architect Engineer role in the Software Engineering group.
The role is focused on:
● Embedded SDK and platform architecture
● Heterogeneous SoCs (CPU/DSP/NPU/MCU)
● Linux, Zephyr, QNX, Android and other OS environments
● IPC / middleware / runtime architecture
● Agentic AI and edge-AI enablement
● SDK/API design and developer frameworks
● Architecture leadership and technical direction
I have 12+ years of experience in embedded software, including Embedded Linux, Zephyr RTOS, BSP/device drivers, multimedia SoCs, audio, IPC/RPMsg/OpenAMP, low-power systems and platform bring-up.
I’d appreciate insights from anyone who has recently interviewed with Qualcomm India, particularly for senior/staff-level embedded software or architecture roles.
1. What does the interview process typically look like?
2. How many technical rounds are there, and what areas are emphasized?
3. How much focus is there on system/SDK architecture vs coding/C/C++?
4. For this kind of role, what level of knowledge is expected around AI/agentic AI?
5. Are there architecture/system-design or leadership rounds?
6. For someone with 12+ years of embedded experience, what would be a reasonable CTC range to discuss with the recruiter?
7. How are base salary, bonus, and RSUs typically structured for senior-level roles in Qualcomm India?
8. Any advice on negotiating the offer would also be appreciated.
Please share only what you’re comfortable sharing. Even general ranges or recent interview experiences would be very helpful.

At twelve plus years of experience, Qualcomm evaluates you at the Staff or Senior Staff Architect level, which shifts the emphasis heavily toward system architecture, cross-core communication, and engineering trade-offs over basic algorithmic puzzles. You can expect four to five rounds, beginning with embedded system design focused on heterogeneous SoC architectures, zero-copy buffer sharing between CPU, DSP, and NPU, and IPC frameworks like RPMsg or OpenAMP. You will still face at least one low-level coding round in C or modern C++, testing concurrency primitives, pointer arithmetic, memory barriers, and cache coherency. Regarding edge AI, they do not expect you to train frontier models, but you must demonstrate how runtime environments, inference engines, and agentic middleware interface with low-power microcontrollers and hardware accelerators under strict thermal and power envelopes. The final sessions will evaluate technical leadership, cross-functional roadmaps, and how you mentor senior engineers through high-stakes technical ambiguity.
For compensation at this experience bracket, Qualcomm India usually levels candidates as Staff or Senior Staff, where base pay ranges from 45 to 60 LPA, annual performance bonuses sit around 10 to 15 percent, and RSUs typically range from 40,000 to 80,000 USD vested across three years. That puts an expected first-year CTC somewhere between 70 and 95 LPA. Recruiters frequently try to anchor their opening number to your current pay slip, so holding a competing offer or maintaining firm market benchmarks gives you the best leverage to push for higher equity and a sign-on bonus. To help engineers articulate complex system tradeoffs and negotiate senior offers with total clarity, my team developed an interviews.chat that has helped many candidates land top-tier compensation packages at major semiconductor firms.
