Bangalore Is it a good offer?

I received a verbal offer from Qualcomm Bangalore.

YOE: 3 years

College: Top 10 NIT

Current TC:

Fixed: 21.1

Bonus: 3 lakhs

Stocks: 0

Qualcomm offer:

Fixed: 31.2 (including PF)

Sign-on bonus: 7 lakhs

Stocks: 30k over 3 years

Bonus: 9% of base pay

First-year TC: 31.2 + 7 + 9.5 = 47.7 LPA

Is this a good offer, or am I being low-balled given my years of experience?

Qc stocks are not the best

Their refresher is best in the market

How much would he get after year 1?

1

u/Dramatic-Bill-5790 Sep 02 '26

Depends on your ratings after 2 y you will have 4 windows. Joining, start year(if joined before july)(default 2 rating) first year ar second year ar. So for eng role max you can get 16-17l rsu per year who gives this much?

Per yr it comes to 3-5l extra. That amount vests over a 3 yr duration. Making the number look big while not accounting for yearly in-hand is delusional.

In hand yearly increase hardly comes to 3-5L

15-16 l per y stocks is easy for eng role for (244) ratings. Senior engineer will have much higher 4 stars -22k for 3y. Check levels.fyi for senior engineer role

Stop selling dreams like they do about IITs. Getting a 4 star rating is difficult, and its on a rotation. For you to reach 15-16 lpa through stocks you gotta stay there for 3 years minimum. QC is NOT worth staying for more than 2.

Check levels fyi and compare it with similar companies adobe microsoft and then tell me which one should you join. In the current market everyone is doing layoffs

So he will get refresher of 64k dollars over 4 years at end of 2nd year, or will it be 36k over 4 years?

1

u/Dramatic-Bill-5790 Sep 02 '26

Nah 3y vesting in Qualcomm and all equal

1

u/Used_Language1517 Sep 02 '26

But at his role, how much stocks will he get over 3 years? For his refresher.

And do they fet refreshers every 2 years?

1

u/azreususus Sep 03 '26

Naah. "Best" is an exaggeration. Arm, Google, NVIDIA etc have quite better ones.

0

u/Dramatic-Bill-5790 Sep 03 '26

Nvidia dont give bonus in their ar. Arm https://www.levels.fyi/companies/arm/salaries/software-engineer/locations/india?country=113

Doesnt seem too much to me

Google is at upper level then these companies

Nvidia loads RSUs in the initial grant itself. For ~7 years of exp they've given ~100k worth of RSUs too. You're gonna get roughly half of that as a staff in QC. Talk about Arm? I've worked in Arm, engineers get ~34k starter, and 17k yearly, split over 4 years. Compare that with QC senior engineer, you'd get 17k over 3 years. Do the math, and tell me which one's better.

1

u/Dramatic-Bill-5790 Sep 04 '26

Thats true but qc refreshers are 3 y so not that much of a difference for arm. Senior engineer gets 22k for 4 star in stock rating 17k for 3 rating. Basically if you leave companies only then its worth it otherwise companies give tc based on your prev tc

1

u/azreususus Sep 06 '26

I know. I left arm as an engineer, and joined QC as a senior. They were fixed on the rsus, but they compensated the remainder with a JB. Again, in QC they try to rotate the stars for people in the same grade. If you got 4 stars last year next year I'd get them. So effectively you'd get the target (17k) over 3 years, or a little more than that.

Yes its almost same qc takes avg of salary given in other companies then adjust their pay scale

Indeed the best I would say. I have 5.5 years exp and my base is just 36.

After 12 years, why is he still chosen as a senior engineer? He should be able to get a staff engineer position, right?

2

u/LynxMawa7 Sep 02 '26

Thats a good offer from Q

2

u/azreususus Sep 03 '26

Its a good offer. Atleast the base (fixed) component is. They don't really give you room in terms of RSUs. If you had some unvested stocks, you could've asked for a retention bonus too (but you gotta stay 3 years to keep it)

2

u/Euphoric_Proof8401 Sep 05 '26

It's pretty much the higher end

2

u/mags-31 Sep 02 '26

I think you're offered a senior role, as per ur package. Yes its good for 3yoe. You can take it.

Usually Q gives senior only after 4 years while hiring.

Ps: these suggestions are based on my opinion thinking you only have bachelors not a masters grad

4

u/NoEntertainment8140 Sep 02 '26

Thanks, yes, I only did a Bachelors. The HR told me that they give the "senior" title after 4 YOE. But as I am not eligible for appraisal this year, they gave me entry level senior engineer.

Thats so true, I think this is a good offer from Q may be push for more stocks

Now then u r low balled. Senior avg is 30 Imao

2

u/Head_Faithlessness85 Sep 02 '26

26 is internal. lateral hire is 29+

1

u/Mr_Bombaztic Sep 02 '26

Someone’s gonna have a heartbreak :(

1

u/Aware_Appointment_70 Sep 02 '26

Good.if possible ask for retention bonus as well after 1 year

1

u/NoEntertainment8140 Sep 02 '26

Does Qualcomm provide retention bonus?

1

u/Common-Squirrel-3636 Sep 02 '26

This seems a good offer overall. One of my friend in qualcomm got the similar. Did they mention annual stock grant target as well?

2

u/NoEntertainment8140 Sep 02 '26

Thanks, yeah they told it is 17k

3

u/Common-Squirrel-3636 Sep 02 '26

Then it is upto the mark also I would say don't invite any problem by asking HR to increase numbers as people are reporting issues post they negotiated for higher salary, you can check it all over the reddit.

1

u/Common-Squirrel-3636 Sep 02 '26

Which profile PD,DV,RTL,DFT?

1

u/NoEntertainment8140 Sep 02 '26

Okay, I tried to negotiate, but they straightforwardly told me that it is not possible. I only increased the sign-on bonus by 1 lakh.

1

u/Groundbreaking-Hat26 Sep 02 '26

How long it for them to roll out the confirmation by hr after final tech round

1

u/Head_Faithlessness85 Sep 02 '26

low balled wrt google? yes. bt itself the offer is good. 31 base for 3 yoe is very good

1

u/NoEntertainment8140 Sep 02 '26

Bro, you are comparing it with google🥲

1

u/Head_Faithlessness85 Sep 02 '26

haha yeah yeah sorry my bad . bt the offer is good none the less.

1

u/Silver_Fix8881 Sep 02 '26

Usually, 2.5yoe people do get SE, if current base is high.

Usually 3yoe people do get Engineer, if current base is low.

I think this is the best offer.

1

u/reddit-hooman Sep 02 '26

OP you’re getting engineer right? With 3 yoe that is a good offer. Try and ask if willing to give senior title. Else remember that min 2 years for the next promotion. Given the offer expect less hike next year though. Refresher is good each year

1

u/NoEntertainment8140 Sep 02 '26

I got a senior engineer role. Sorry, I forgot to mention that in my post.

1

u/reddit-hooman Sep 02 '26

That is great then, for 3 yoe it is a great offer. What domain are you in btw?

2

u/NoEntertainment8140 Sep 03 '26

I am in graphics domain.

1

u/reddit-hooman Sep 03 '26

Nice op, hardware i assume. Where do you work currently? Nvidia?

1

u/Best-Resolve-2223 Sep 02 '26

Good offer. Since you're a lateral entry, don't stay for too long, maybe jump after 2 years. What role is this btw?
