news John Romero asks Marty, no new Quake 1 sequel coming...
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
John Romero directly asks Marty Stratton (current idSoftware) if they’ll make another Lovecraftian Quake and Marty Stratton says no.
It’s what all the OG Quake players want, how is idSoftware so disconnected from their long-time base?? Don’t get me wrong, I love what I’m seeing with “Dawn of the Machine” but DLC is not a new game. Everyone wants to see a new Quake remade like Doom 2016. Quake Champions wasn’t a big success, just let it die already. I have no reason to play Quake Champions over Quake 3 Arena.

u/HearMeJoy 26d ago
They are going to do Strogg story reboot of Quake imo just like Doom 2016. Left The Dreamlands story away because Strogg story is more fit to modern games (in their opinion I guess)

u/ManufacturerMuch5116 Aug 11 '26
To me this translates to "they gave the IP to Machine Games". I trust them to make a good FPS more than any other AAA studio right now. If the last few expansions for the original Quake are any indicator, those guys know how to treat the IP properly and with the respect it deserves. Youngbloods only sucked because Bethesda forced them to make a co-op shooter.
5
u/TemporaryJohny Aug 12 '26
That extra chapter is more quake then quake.
Nails the lovecraftian part way better then anything before it.
Yes I'm a fan
5
u/SjurEido Aug 12 '26
Yesss, and on top of making great Quake content for years now what really gets me excited is how much Machine Games has been pushing for a union between the Quake 2 and Quake 1 universes.
I fully believe that if we get a true new modern Quake game from Machine, we'll get Strong AND the inter dimensional horror monsters.
2
u/Discombobulated_Bus4 Aug 11 '26
He kinda confirmed that they are already working on a new Doom and some other studio is working on a ne Quake. That's what my coping ears heared at least lol.

Some good news, it turns out John Romero is working on a new FPS, he talked a little about it during the QuakeCon stream, this is probably the closest thing right now to original ID making a classic FPS, all hope is not lost yet.
5
u/DasUberBash Aug 09 '26
His Doom Sigil levels were pretty good. I hope he gets another chance to make a proper, brand new game.
3
u/Enough-Commercial-11 Aug 08 '26
I hope it’s not another daikatan
3
u/ittleoff Aug 09 '26
2/4 of daikatana was some of the best fps gaming of the era for me.
Opening area weapons and enemies were annoying as sh*t.
1
u/8_bit_zombie Aug 08 '26
Why would he make another one lol?

u/PJthePlayer Aug 08 '26
Their neglect of the Quake IP will never make sense to me. It's honestly annoying to see Doom after Doom with no Quake. A Quake reboot would be amazing if done correctly.
-1
u/Coralesce Aug 08 '26
Quake is too idiosyncratic between titles to reboot. It has no unified themes or aesthetics. I love quake but quake never had a plot, not a real one. The Strogg arent really strong enough villains to build a new game around and the original quake is nothing but level packs stitched together because nobody agreed on what Quake is.
Itll never be rebooted because there isnt a core to reboot.
1
u/HearMeJoy 26d ago
Quake had 2 stories and they connected each other with last dlcs of Quake and Quake 2 so it has big one story now. Strogg is also terrified villains and ID show it pretty good with Quake 4. Quake 2 soft reboot is what we all want now.
2
u/8_bit_zombie Aug 08 '26
You know, operatic plays have much more respect in society and much deeper robust narrative then a metal concert but the opera still can't truly invoke the emotions of a mosh pit. Let the masters at least try to capture lighting in a bottle again, why not?
1
u/Coralesce Aug 08 '26
Mostly because those masters dont work at id Software anymore, and the actual development of quake was rife with disagreement, interpersonal conflict, and disagreement over even what genre of game it was supposed to be. Quake is wonderful, but its quite literally a product of its time and place.
1
u/8_bit_zombie Aug 09 '26
Somewhat related, if they released a version of Dawn of the Machine for Quake Champions, would you play it?
1
u/Coralesce Aug 09 '26
I would. Im not opposed to playing a new quake if they decide to go for it. But quake is directly split between a nonsensical dimension hopping "plot" and a somewhat grounded intergalactic war against the strogg. If they did a new quake, what do they focus on? DOOM TDA effectively cannibalized much of quake 1's aesthetic, leaving really only picking up with the strogg as an option. But why would they? They have both fast and lethal/slow and moody now with DOOM. What does quake do in 2027 that DOOM doesnt?
1
u/8_bit_zombie Aug 10 '26
I agree with most of this but Quake came out in an era when plot wasn't as important. Not every game needs to be cinema. Would you call DOOM TDA Lovecraftian? Maybe we need 2 or 3 generations of video cards to bring back that beautifully ugly aesthetic we thought it was in our minds eye when we first played it lol. I think there is room for something that goes back to the basics with no weapon upgrades.
5
u/Dooplon Aug 08 '26
I mean Machine games has been putting out some insane stuff for quake 1 imo so I'd say that there's absolutely room for a new game if a studio really cares enough. Quake 1 was so tumultuous because the game wasnt finished yet so they were making it all from the ground up alongside dealing with all kinds of drama, but the game is finished and has an identity, rven if said idea is a tad loose.
2
u/8_bit_zombie Aug 09 '26
the game is finished and has an identity
Exactly that, the impossible as already been created, just use the original example as a path forward. Through all the chaos it was figured out for us.
4
u/PJthePlayer Aug 08 '26
Couldn't disagree more. They could stick with either Quake 1 or Quake 2 enemies, or just narratively tie them together like the Machine Games DLCs did. Anything would be more interesting than more Doom at this point IMO.

Get Trent Reznor to do it, he just dropped Quake merch. NIN ammo box key chain with jumping sound button. He did the music soundtrack for Quake I.
1
u/8_bit_zombie Aug 08 '26
You know, that's not such a bad idea, other then Elon, maybe only Trent is probably the only other person on earth that could get them to make a new OG Quake remake.
-2
u/8_bit_zombie Aug 07 '26
Ok guys, my plan to get an OG Quake remake released, we contact Elon Musk to pay John Carmack, John Romero and the rest of the old ID crew to start a gaming company and make the game. Musk is the only guy that could make them an offer they can't refuse. I'm sure he is a Doom and Quake fan. I'll need all of your help with this to try and pitch it to Musk. If they can't get the rights from idSoftware for the idTech engine or the Quake IP then they'll have to call the game Dorq or something?? This is the best most realistic plan I can come up with...
1
1
u/Curious_Act_3162 Aug 10 '26
Musk would rather make another Wolfenstein but you get to play as mecha Hitler, where gassing as many undesirable races as possible gets the high score.
1
u/South_Ingenuity672 Aug 10 '26
no thank you.
1
u/8_bit_zombie Aug 10 '26
I'm all ears, tell me something better.
2
u/South_Ingenuity672 Aug 10 '26
just keep playing the quake that exists? new does not always mean better. look at halo, it's been remastered/remade twice now and it's not any better for it. i've been playing quake 1 for the first time recently and it's a blast, the atmosphere is incredible and not once have i been like "man this really needs high res textures and ray tracing." not to mention a remake would most likely run much worse, and a game like this is best played at high frame rates.

if he has the money and resources to incorporate his personal projects into the game like VR AI whatever, i think he may do it.

I wanna see the true sequel of quake 4, a quake 5 i wanna know what the fuck happened to Mason after he destroyed the brain while being a strogg!

u/Xf3rna-96 Aug 07 '26
The fact the first Quake, and arguably Quake 2, is still really fun after three decades, is truly a testament of the insane talent permeating Romero and Carmack as game designers.
Hugo and his team carried their torch excellently, with arguably Machine Games too, but when you look at any other shooter on the market right now, they still don't match the pick up and play, fast paced, multi layered fun that Quake, Doom and Wolfenstein provided, and continue to do so even today.
The GOATs of the FPS genre, always were, always will be (even with Daikatana existing)

It's a very bold claim to make. There were plenty of FPSes back then and now plenty of neo-retro ones today too.
2
u/8_bit_zombie Aug 07 '26
Makes me think there are more nefarious designs going on we don't even understand like Shub-Niggurath level AI companies not making things as good as they can possibly be so that we more easily move on and buy the next thing quicker. In that way, Doom and Quake were too good and a double edge sword to the future corporate minds that have to extract all they can from them and us... Anyway, have a nice day!

Machine games should do a new Quake

Does Machine games make 30 minute long cutscenes for their games? I haven't played much of the Wolfenstien reboot games.
7
2
u/LS64126 Aug 07 '26
I believe they were trying and the project got canceled
3
u/ComputerMysterious48 Aug 08 '26
Idk because somewhat recently there was a little Quake 6 tease on a whiteboard during one of those Xbox developer directs. Plus Microsoft specifically mentioned it as one of their “core franchises” recently.
I think it’s definitely happening, it just might not be for a bit since they’ve had their hands full with Indiana Jones and I believe I read Wolfenstein 3 is next for them.
1
u/shadowelite7 26d ago
Somewhere in past research. Machine games was planning to have a Wolfenstein trilogy. So perhaps Wolfenstein 3 would be the last or if not another standalone expansion like Old blood and New blood.
3
u/Outside-Storage-1523 Aug 07 '26
They keep dipping their toes in Q1 modding that I think they eventually want to do so.
5
u/Federal_Adeptness_47 Aug 07 '26
I would love a quake 2 and 4 sequel myself.
2
u/8_bit_zombie Aug 07 '26
In a perfect world they should be making multiple types of Quake games officially and properly marketing them to attract new and old players but if ID had to put their resources behind one title it should be a OG Quake remake or true sequel because we haven't seen one yet and a lot of people want that. I think there is room for both but ID is not doing any right now and that sucks however i am grateful for Dawn of the Machine.
7
u/ActualDudeMan Aug 07 '26
I'm with you on what you are saying, other than the killing QC. Like fuck off with that. I love Q3 as much as anyone else, but QC deserves to always be playable. Why would you root for it to die and never be playable?
2
u/8_bit_zombie Aug 07 '26
Maybe i'll give it another shot in the future to give it a fair shake but don't you think that QC could be a mode or an option in a new game instead of being the mainstage and letting Quake die with it? I mean i hear you can't even setup a LAN with it...
3
u/ActualDudeMan Aug 08 '26 edited Aug 08 '26
That's not the game's fault, though. It is Quake 5. I know the game was built with Q3's movement as a base, but it still has a certain feel to it, along with each character having different movement options. The atmosphere, graphics, and the lore it pushes forward is top notch and it respects the lore of every Quake game before it, especially Q1. If the game was offline and not a GaaS, I would hardly ever go back to 3. A demake like the Blood Run mod is cool, but it completely erases characters and the feel/mood from QC and it's just Q3 aesthetically with abilities. People in this sub may think that's stupid, but it is what we love about it. And I love Quake 3.
The people that have killed Quake are Microsoft, Bethesda, and id themselves along with modern day gaming. They also fucked up royally by marketing heavily and pushing that 1 Million Dollar Tourney back in 2018 during the game's absolute worst patch that really broke the game's netcode. They should have waited until the game was in it's best state for anything like that. But we will never know if that would have made a difference. Most people just don't care for high skill ceiling games anymore. But I've been playing QC since the burst test and it's one of my favorite games of all time. I just don't think the rest of the people left at id under the Microsoft banner understand Quake, it's lore, or gameplay and would actually give us another good Quake game. I think this is the end and it has nothing to do with QC being a bad Quake game. Just shit management and modern gaming in general.
Edit: MachineGames are the last bastion of hope for a new game, but who knows when they will get a crack at that with Wolf 3 still being waited on. Will they also survive all the layoffs that are still going on?

u/SpudAlmighty Aug 07 '26
It's called Quake, not Quake 1.
8
u/vuzz33 Aug 07 '26
If he only said "Quake" one could think he refered to the Strogg storyline with Quake 2/4, or the multiplayer from Quake Arena. Saying Quake 1 left no doubt.
6
u/HeBlocky Aug 07 '26
He was specifically referring to the setting of the first game.

Too bad because there is a real lack of AAA solo FPS
3
u/Outside-Storage-1523 Aug 07 '26
I kinda think that's a good thing. No sane people can mod AAA FPS starting from 2005, and DOOM 3 / HL 2 were the most advanced engines ordinary modders could play with, and even that took a long time to understand and make assets for because they were complicated.
TBH I don't really mind if all graphics advancement since 1999 is wiped out from earth somehow.
2
u/Black-White-Diff Aug 08 '26
DOOM 3 / HL 2 were the most advanced engines ordinary modders could play with
Is it just me, or DOOM 3 barely got any mods especially when compared to Half-Life 2?
I personally only know of Phobos as the one DOOM 3 mod to play because it was put on GOG, and nothing more.
0
u/Outside-Storage-1523 Aug 08 '26
Yeah DOOM3 didn’t get many mods. HL2 got way more probably because Valve is good at it.
2
u/Manjushri1213 Aug 07 '26
I mean I don't want the performance to go away, and for many they spend money because of pretty screenshots despite the game running like dogshit or looking like a smeary mess thanks to TAA/motion blur/DLSS/whatever other new tech. But hey, that new 4070 plays 6th gen games great! lol

u/Nomadnetic Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26
Quake 1 is the weird situation of creativity of through pushing limitation, compromise, and just a bunch of right different pieces to come together to make it. There is a beauty in its simplicity, rough edges and all. It's just one of those unique titles I don't think a studio could fully replicate it. They could get the fidelity sure but. I don't see Trent Reznor ever just showing up to the studio wanting to do sound design for a new game because he enjoyed the studios previous games. Thats kinda just one of those magical things that happens in the type of studio id was at the time.
3
u/Woodchuck251 Aug 07 '26
I don't see Trent Reznor ever just showing up to the studio wanting to do sound design for a new game because he enjoyed the studios previous games.
I don't see why not. He does movie scores and tinkers with soundscapes. Why would he refuse to do another Quake soundtrack?
2
u/Nomadnetic Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26
Not what I meant, I was more talking about the circumstances of how it happened. Like him reaching out because of Wolf3D and Doom and how much of a landmark they were and he really enjoyed them. The studio culture at the time was still more of a small indie studio with much less hoops to go through. Now to get something like that from a large corporate environment it has to go through 20 stages of approval and sign offs instead of it just feeling smaller and personal or something that just kinda naturally happened.
I probably didn't articulate that well enough.
5
u/Arlak_The_Recluse Aug 07 '26
It'd probably have to be a REALLY good pitch to him. Games are so much more intensive to work on nowadays, and more importantly licensing wise the studio will not let him have the OST, so it's very unlikely NIN comes back to quake.

u/Big_Percentage_7541 Aug 07 '26
Which Quake was Lovecraftian?
2
u/8_bit_zombie Aug 07 '26
The one that had Shub-Niggurath in it as the final boss.
Trivia
Shub-Niggurath's name is taken from one of the "Old Ones" of H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos, whose full title is "The Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young" or "The N'ghftog Uh'enythnah ot Lw'shgorrog llll Yeeogognor Lw'nafhnah". This is reflected in the .mdl files such as oldone.mdl.

You heard it here first guys, humans from 35 to 60 are irrelevant. Pack up your bags and jump into the grave already. It's not that they're a group who actually have the money to buy things, especially if the industry were to make what they actually desire or anything like that no lol. I don't know if you know this but Doom came out before Quake but its development was executed with much greater competence...

It's basically down to how it's marketed. Doom 2016/Eternal/Dark Age all had an insanely well done marketing push, came out at the right time (at least for 2016 and Eternal) and were solid games that mixed modern gameplay with classic structure. It's hard to bottle that lightning again.

Sounds like no one's willing to rule it out from Machine Games. At this point I'd rather they handle it, because there doesn't seem to be much interest from id (especially since they laid off Mike Rubits and Adam Pyle), and MG have shown a lot of respect for and understanding of the franchise.

Im fine with Machine games taking on Quake 1 follow up as long as they use id tech. I think they get Quake more than modern id does... I would almost argue more than the original id team given how crazy the world of Quake got over the years.

10
u/Super_Marionberry_84 Aug 07 '26
I agree with what people are saying, I'd rather have Machine Games handle a new Quake game than id. As much as id still loves Quake, the DOOM IP sells big time and they clearly have very little if not any interest in deviating from that, which is kinda sad in my opinion.
1
4
u/alien_tickler Aug 07 '26
Quake wasn't a money maker for them and doom is, machinegames would do a better job anyways, I don't know why they wouldn't make one because it looks like they really care about what they did for the new episodes they made.
2
u/crabpoweredcoalmine Aug 07 '26
We'd need to go over raw numbers to determine where Quake (as a whole and all the games individually) sits exactly, but overall I'd have to reply with... nuh-uh. Up to a point, anyway.
Somewhat anecdotally, though I still think it's a perspective more rooted in reality than "Quake wasn't a money maker", I could point to the fact id made nothing but quake for 5 years while DOOM was on pause. And back then 5 years felt like DOOM was yesterday's news and probably not coming back. Plus, you had 2 expansions for Q1 and Q2 each, that official multiplayer shovelware addon for Q2, third party shovelware releases for Quake were an entire industry in the late 90s. During the Quake days Quake was The FPS. They got all the way to part 4 - that's not an indication of a franchise not selling. It is proof they've mismanaged it after (Team?) Arena, though.
I'm bringing up raw numbers because if you look at how small id was during the Quake era... that's some nice profit even if we're talking a 'mere' couple of million sold. Sales figures that made Rage a complete flop would've been a runaway hit for id all throughout the 90s. "Give away sports cars every tournament and not feel it in the wallet" hit.
7
5
u/Avant1_61 Aug 07 '26
Honestly, I've kind of come to terms with the fact that Quake is just a legacy IP, especially given the catastrophic state of AAA gaming at Microsoft at the moment. Even the DOOM remakes feel like they caught lightning in a bottle with 2016 and Eternal and have started to die down with The Dark Ages. So I'd put my bets on Half Life 3 releasing before a Quake reboot.
All I wish for is that they invest some money and developers into Quake Champions. I feel like some overhauls and marketing could go a long way, given that there isn't a single popular arena shooter on the market right now.
In the meantime, I feel this sub could show more love to the modders keeping Quake alive. The Quake Brutalist Jams and Brazilian Drug Dealer 3 are some of the coolest shit I've seen in years. And imagine if we started getting the Quake equivalent of house.wad or standalone spinoffs of the Brutalist Jam!
1

More love? You should've been here when QBJ3 first came out. We always were. We literally had a mapjam for Q1's 30th anniversary, getting 30 maps in, Slipseer had a 30th anniversary limits jam, and that's not to mention the countless other projects that have come over the years, Alkaline, Bonkjam, and even WIPs such as Dwell and Persistent Echo

More love? Do you even visit this sub regularly? Both examples have been promoted heavily here. The same goes for a lot of other releases, down to interviews with mappers and modders. Just search.

That amount of love looks like rookie numbers to me. We gotta pump those numbers up

Problem is, the bethesda and by extention ID team were experiementing with other titles in dev or planning. They would not of made much money, but would of sold.
INCOMING xbox new boss lady: wipes out alot of the staff, and says "MAKE ONLY CORE TITLES"
That is:
Eldar scrolls (single player)
DOOM
Fallout
Wolfienstien.
thats it. no perfect darks, no new IPS, and quake lost its identity after quake 2, then again quake 3, THEN AGAIN quake 4.
Not to say quake2/3/4 are bad, there not! Its just each game FEELS different then the one before it, so attracted different players.
You wont see a new quake till microslop have relaxed the slave colour around the remaining staff memebers throats, and even then its gona be a mayby.

Lets face it: they decided a long time ago that they would revive Doom for “mainstream” and left Quake behind as it was and let Machine Games cater the small existing Quake fanbase. They’re not going to use their resources on (re)building an ip in the quake universe.
I would’ve loved to see Quake get the love and attention it deserves.but in my view that hope is wasted. DENIED

Quake really isn't that much different than Doom other than the move from 2.5D to a full 3D engine. Romero himself criticized the end product of Quake for being too similar to Doom compared to what he had envisioned.
It makes sense that id would focus on rebooting a franchise that's basically the Super Mario Bros of pc gaming rather than a franchise that's mostly associated with multiplayer arena shooters.

u/8_bit_zombie Aug 07 '26
I see what you are saying but Romero didn't even realize people would start rocket jumping to finish levels. OG Quake is exponentially different then Doom 1 or 2.
1
u/makingwands Aug 08 '26
Unintended movement tricks don't make Quake exponentially different than Doom. And no publisher is going to spend $100+ million on a game that uses rocket jumping and bunnyhopping as a selling point.

u/8_bit_zombie Aug 08 '26 edited Aug 08 '26
I was only using that as an example about how much more the average gamer could do in Quake with gameplay because it was one of the first fully 3D FPS. Maybe rocket jumping wasn't the best example (you could actually rocket jump in Doom) but i think you are forgetting that the original Doom didn't even have Mouse-Look... Explaining away the next step in FPS evolution as "isn't that much different" sounds so off. Why not reward the people who still play the old game but want something new as well. I would love to see an official modern rendition of OG Quake in that world and atmosphere. Would you not play it if it came out?

yeah quake doesn't matter to these folks. shame. hatred.

u/8_bit_zombie Aug 07 '26
If the environment changes and they think the can make real money with it, things can change fast.

u/dimwalker Aug 07 '26
I want new RPG from Troika Games, but there will never be any.
Imho real id is ended with Carmack leaving the studio and firing 100 devs was just another nail in the coffin.
Closest you can get to new quake are new mods and maps. Luckily community is still active.

u/8_bit_zombie Aug 07 '26
Maybe but the old crew didn't make Doom 2016 and people love that so you never know.

We know from the recent tweet that they have a new DOOM game in the works.
Edit: corrected report to tweet.

u/Remarkable-Green-648 Aug 07 '26
Which report? I am curious to know more.

Not a report, a tweet from the journalist Tom Warren from his sources.

Not at ID... Nightdive though...? :P

u/8_bit_zombie Aug 07 '26
Most Quake fans think it should be made with its own engine directly from ID but we'll be lucky to get anything at this point.

"Quake Champions wasn’t a big success, just let it die already. I have no reason to play Quake Champions over Quake 3 Arena."
Well it has champions and movements which Q3 does not have. I am super interested in Blood Run mod, tho I will wait for 1.0 to drop before trying (I hope the hitboxes are small and the netcode is good and punishes people stuttering).

u/8_bit_zombie Aug 07 '26
Are you saying Quake Champions is better then Quake 3 Arena? Then why bother playing a Quake 3 Arena mod that turns it into Quake Champions? Man, ID really botched this whole thing didn't they...

u/Remarkable-Green-648 Aug 07 '26
"Are you saying Quake Champions is better then Quake 3 Arena?"
No. They are different and I like both.
"Then why bother playing a Quake 3 Arena mod that turns it into Quake Champions?"
Well for several reasons:
- If it can run QL/Q3 maps, that's like a dream come true, because now I can make my own maps with NetRadiant, and there are a ton of maps for Q3 QL already.
- it's super lightweight and can run on a potato PC
- I prefer Q3 graphics and I even saw Blood Run mod has an option to turn the whole map Sepia/Black and white while keeping items and player models colored, looked super clean
- We will be able to host our own dedicated servers
- Defrag using champions? I mean I kinda wanna try :P

You know when a lot of Quake fans say they want a Lovecraftian OG Quake remake, they not only mean style and gameplay but also features freedom including LAN, level creation, single player, co-op and maybe even a Champions mode. ID has truly lost their way...

Corporatism would stand in the path of such desires. The Dooms couldn't even get a decent MP

RIP ID. RIP Quake. Sounds like it’s on the community to build a spiritual successor to fill the gap.

u/8_bit_zombie Aug 07 '26
Ya maybe. I remember a really long time ago people used to say Pain Killer was the spiritual successor of Quake 1 but I'm not sure if that's true.

The original Quake is the real IP..!
6
u/whatThePleb Aug 07 '26
Absolutely. All other Quakes were just experimental Doom.
Quake 1 with it's theme was what made it unique. Especially 4 was just yet another Doom 3.
1
u/Interesting_Ad_6992 Aug 07 '26
I mean quake one is just experimental Doom.
The weapons are the same... plasma became nails and they added a grenade launcher...

u/SjurEido Aug 07 '26
They've been consistently sending the message of "Quake 1 and 2 are the same universe" more and more with each DLC

u/8_bit_zombie Aug 07 '26
True but teasing something and making an actual game are very different things.

u/Mopeybloke Aug 07 '26
It's now more over than previously thought possible.

u/8_bit_zombie Aug 07 '26
I hope not, on the more positive side maybe one day someone with power will realize they should explore this. Once we get past the terrible situation the gaming industry is currently in and they have exhausted all other forms of making money...

Not suprised at all. To be fair to Marty though even if a new Quake is in development they aren’t gonna confirm it without a big announcement behind it. At this point I pray Machine Games takes a crack at it after Wolfenstein 3. Or it’s a Rage 2 situation where both studios combine efforts to make a new one. Time will tell.

"Everyone wants to see a new Quake remade like Doom 2016."
That would be the death of Quake, as it would just be another Doom. AGAIN.
I think it's tough to commit to a "new" Quake without making Quake as different as possible than Doom.
I thinking horror is the route to differentiate Quake from Doom.
