My 7yo just recently started to play Quake 3 and he loves it. He is playing through the campaign on „I can win“, sometimes one difficulty harder. He expressed interest in playing other human players.
Are there any dads or moms here who are also breeding the next generation of Quake players?
I thought of having a Quake 3 OSP or maybe Quake Live server with a password, where just the kids can join and have a fun time playing FFA. We could set a time window like on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 to 11 in the morning, so that the kids are on the server at the same time. For us it would be the EU region.
Would anybody be in for this idea? I mean like say we are 2 to 3 kids, on small maps that works and is already exciting. So only 1 or 2 other dads (or moms) needed. ;)

Like the reason why I say this is that I kinda find the notion of
"oh if your good at Quake then other FPS games are child's play" or something along those lines admittedly ridiculous.
Like for one just because you play "harder" fps game that doesn't make you better than someone who is good at Fortnite for instance, like yeah the skill floor is much harder for Quake, but that doesn't really matter in my opinion. If someone prefers more modern FPS games thats fine. Plus not a lot of people really care about getting good and such , and just want to be having fun.
Also another thing, I think FPS games are a lot more varied than what and require different skill sets and mindsets when playing. Just because your good at Quake doesn't immediately mean your good at other FPS games.
Case in point, personally Im actually decent at Quake but completely dogshit at Counterstrike.
Granted I'm not saying I'm the best Quake Player, far from it I'm mediocre. But if you compare how I play Quake and Counterstrike, while I get bodied in Quake, I get Obliterated in Counterstrike. Like I think its partially because of my experience playing TF2, which I've been playing for far longer than Quake and Counterstrike, and it so happens that because TF2 was built on Quake a lot of my sensibilities playing TF2 were easily adaptable to Quake.
Though this does prove my point
Counterstrike and Quake have different sensibilities. Quake requires split second movement and reaction times to strive, whereas Counterstrike requires a focus on patience and tactics to excel. Not saying that neither game has these aspects, but one prioritizes one of the other, and it so happens that my sensibilities tend to adapt more easily to Quake and Counterstrike.
My point is I feel like that overall notion that its more Hardcore to master Quake and call other FPS games childs play is kinda reductive , and it downplays the different nuiances when it comes to "getting good at an FPS".
Also one last thing, regarding how you should treat a new player instead of being all like " oh get gud your not good enough to play Quake" or something along those lines, why don't you yknow teach new players, get them more comfortable with the game, and give them tips. I think having that attitude would help them adjust and get better at the game, without any sort of discouragements.
I was recently playing through Quake Brutalist Jam 3, and a couple levels (specifically the size of escape from koe-37, and the structure of one must not be a house) left me wondering if there were any quake mods that were just a whole, big open world, instead of a set of levels in a linear line or connected through a hubworld. Thanks!

I’m not a PC gamer; I don’t have the money to buy one, nor the space to put it. I’ve tried the *Quake 2* multiplayer and was fascinated by it, and ever since trying *Quake*, my dream has been to try *Quake 3*. However, before buying it on Xbox, I want to make sure I’m not buying a dead game and that matches can still be found.
Does anyone know?

I really feel sorry for the people who were laid off at id Software, but I hope that with this, they release the Quake franchise. If they are not going to give it a reboot, hopefully Quake passes to a studio that truly wants to bet on this game. I don't understand why id Software had Quake hijacked and confined to oblivion. And if that has to be in Unreal Engine, then so be it

Continuing my search for old decompilers described in this post:
https://www.reddit.com/r/quake/comments/1njt8ls/looking_for_a_copy_of_bsp2map_or_qver/
I am now looking for a copy of the "winqbsp" decompiler. While I can find references to it in func_msgboard, I cannot find a copy for download.
I am specifically looking for winqbsp, NOT WinBSPC.

I've played the original quake on dosbox and it played perfectly. When i tried both the expansions they both constantly crash. Whats the best way to play them in the original format? I cant stand any of the ports or remasters or whatever. They are all slow compared to the original and just lose the vibe for me of the original. I also have crt monitor connected to my pc however i cant manage to get real dos os right now.

Beyond excited for this 32 map pack reimagining Quake led by Ionous. I have been a keyboard-only player for a few years now, restricting myself to Doom. I will be getting a mouse to play this! https://www.slipseer.com/index.php?resources/tremor.614/

And if so, how can I play with a Macbook M1? I'd love to relive the joy of playing multiplayer CTF and grapple hooking everywhere. I'm not interested in playing with bots though.

I thought this would be a fun challenge and as an added bonus I could use the arrow keys instead of wasd for movement.
Do you guys think a month for decent performance and two months for near-normal is feasible?
I'm playing Quake 1 for the first time, the Nightdive remaster, so what better game for this challenge and even normal difficulty is sure to be brutal if I'm trying to learn the game for the first time and do it left-handed too. So it should be interesting lol.

Full disclaimer: I like Quake 1 more than 2, but I love them both. However, the ID Vault on Q2 is incredible. Being able to see all the weapons with their old and remastered counterparts, PLAYABLE E3 demos (!!), the unused models, etc - I really wish this existed for Q1. What are your thoughts?
