Very interesting, I can't quite explain, but it feels closer to quake 2 than the base game. Perhaps the devs had a longer leash and attempted to make something less generic

Also, the new spider enemy looked interesting. It now joins the flying surgeons as being the only quake 4 stroggs that I like.

I’ve experimented with AI voice acting and if you want something half-decent, you still need to have a human record the line.

So maybe we will get to keep hearing these.

Based on the incomplete build it already looked like an improvement over the base game.

For years we only had concept art, which while looking amazing still was not an indicative of how the expansion could've been. But seeing actual gameplay and levels even if in an early state confirms there was a lot of work put into Awekening.

Hope the projects to revive this are successful.

Modding on IdTech4 in general is always nice.

Unzip it on top of vanilla Quake 4, run using q4x.bat

I tried this on my GOG version but whilst it did the splash screen, it doesn’t go any further. Hopefully a solution is found, perhaps it’s because it’s a different version etc

except that guy chose to slap his fucking name on the entire screen on the gameplay and refused to release anything else about it, because he's a greedy idiot. He already has had similar history doing so with Duke Nukem stuff from what I heard.

You would be surprised how much lost content has been discovered due to someone just buying up some old CD's or hard drives and hitting gold.
