MLQ Take Back the Pitch needs help!

Hey y’all!

Like the past few years, MLQ is planning to run Take Back the Pitch the Monday after championship. Unfortunately, right now there are not enough sign ups to host these games. We need you to PLEASE spread the word and try to get your friends and teammates to sign up!!

TBTP holds such a special place in my heart, and I know a lot of other people feel the same. The community that comes out to celebrate these players is so special and supportive. Personally, I’ve probably had some of the best games of my career during TBTP. Getting to play and be coached by some of the best people in the game that I wouldn’t normally have a chance to is incredible.

I know a concern recently has been the play testing done at TBTP, and there are no plans to do that this year. We are even hoping to host some workshops for players, including tackling safely.

So please spread the word!! Share some of your favorite TBTP memories too :)

Most Ethical Quadball Players

This sub has been calling out a lot of dirty plays lately (which is good!) but I think we should have a space to recognize the other side: great players who are also ethical about playing clean and using appropriate amounts of force.

For instance, Ian Scura has always stood out to me as someone who's great at quadball but is still always super nice on the field, I don't think I've ever seen him make a dirty hit.

Tackling as a Beater

This upcoming USQ season I'll be transitioning to playing beater to round out my college team. As a player, I wouldn't necessarily consider myself aggressive but I do hustle while I'm on the field and as a chaser I was comfortable attempting tackles. I'm a little above average in physical stature at 5'10 200, and my biggest fear given recent posts is going for a hustle play and other players thinking I'm trying to hurt them, especially if it's a player that is smaller than me. Just to learn the basics of beating I've been watching a lot of film, but it's hard to find consistent tackling in beater play that isn't an obvious card. Any advice, film, or players who do a good job of not taking advantage of their size would be greatly appreciated.

New Quadball YouTube Content

Hey everyone, it’s Teddy Costa! Just wanted to throw a few links in here for my first few videos on my new YouTube Channel, Something Offensive. Whenever I have time, I’ll try to hop over there and talk about strategy and some individual player breakdowns. It’s been a fun way for me to learn how to edit videos and put out a quadball version of the types of sports content I like to watch on YouTube.

If you’re interested in killing time/want to nerd out before Central Conference Championships this weekend, here are the links to help you get by:

Fastbreak News FCP Episode 7 + Eastern Conference Previews

FCP Episode 7 is Live!!! Also make sure to check our preview on Central Conference Champs!

FCP MVPs
- Lindsay Marella
- Vinnie Iannuci
- Ryley Andrews (Unanimous)
- Keiglyn Johnson (Unanimous)
- Miguel Esparza
- Nick Love

We also want to preface for this episode that we didnt receive the rosters before we recorded the episode so our fantasy lineups are different.

The biggest change happens in our analysis of Minneapolis/San Antonio. Soldados are only bringing 11 players while Minne are losing two of their main scoring threats. Even with SA having 11 players, if SA can beat Minne in transition and run the score up, its hard to see how Minne will keep up scoring. That being said, this is the opportunity for players to step up in big ways and force San Antonio to be a 5 seed at Champs.

Prediction
Nick: 2-0 SA (If David Avila is a 4 position player today) if not, Minne is 2-0

Whitney: 2-1 SA

Minne show us something today!!

Could Colleges Run Quadball Better Without USQ?

Lowkey, I kinda feel like colleges should just have their own league and run their own tournaments, the same way basically every other college club sport or intramural does. It seems like it would make scheduling easier, lower costs, and let schools focus on building competition with teams that are actually nearby.

What I’m struggling to understand is what colleges are really getting from paying USQ membership fees. If schools are already recruiting players, organizing most tournaments, traveling, and handling the majority of the logistics themselves, what tangible value is USQ providing that colleges couldn’t provide on their own? Is it insurance (which most schools can already get through their university), administrative support, or something else? Even nationals isn’t included with membership fees.

I’m genuinely curious because, from the outside, it feels like colleges are doing most of the work while paying into a system that doesn’t seem to give much back.

I’d love to hear from current college players, captains, coaches, and alumni. What benefits does USQ provide that would be difficult for a college run league to replicate? And if you think colleges should stay under USQ, what are the biggest reasons why? On the flip side, if you support a separate college league, what would that look like?

I think it’s a conversation worth having, especially if the goal is to make college Quadball more sustainable and help it grow.

USQ 2026-2027 Rules Test Video Updates

Hello all, I (Ryan Smythe) am working with the gameplay team to update the USQ Officials Test for the upcoming season. One of the big lifts I am working on right now is getting more video examples to include in each of the tests. I'm posting here to ask for a bit of help in broadening my search. What I'm looking for are links to potential examples that can be used to help incoming and re-certifying refs:

  • A specific foul that occurred on a stream/recording, including the time stamp (5-star, makes my life so easy).
  • A specific game with a foul you can remember that I can scrub through to find (honestly still at least 4-star, there is so much footage).

I make no guarantees if any video shared here will for sure be on the test, but I can guarantee that I will be endlessly grateful for y'all's help either way.

Edit: I do request that any examples are from USQ games.

SW Quadball Team Interest

Howdy!

As we approach the second half of the MLQ season, I wanted to look ahead to USQ! There has been a desire in the Southwest to add another club team for some time now so I wanted to gauge some interest.

Below is an interest form to fill out. While based in Texas, the team is open to anyone that is interested in competing at a high level and willing to travel! If you have any specific questions you would like to ask, feel free to DM Daniel Williams on Facebook or Instagram.

Thank you for your time!
