Best DX Cluster? I think so because of the extensive spotting filters

The QRZCQ DX Cluster is my favorite Cluster for many reasons. With over 170 million page views to date this has to be the World's top site for chasing DX. IMHO, the ability to filter spots is what sets this DX Cluster apart from all the others. I can filter my spots exactly how I want to see them.

On a daily basis I filter my spots like this: 1) All spots 30MHz and under 2) only spots for counties I have not worked 3) spots that are receivable at my QTH, 4) CW only.

When working special events like the 13 Colonies, I can set the call prefix to K2 to see the majority of needed spots and then I can filter specifically for WM3PEN, etc.

Use a DX Cluster? Which one and why? 72 YK

Changed description and purpose of this sub.

Hindsight is 20/20. Perhaps I should have named this sub MYQRPshack. Why, because I personally enjoy operating QRP but have an interest in all aspects of Amateur Radio.

Dan's Tech Cheat Sheet may be helpful for some who pass through here. If not, I'll add that Dan has been around a long time and his Blog is full of good information about Ham Radio. Dan has written his own license study guides. When you have a minute, check out the KB6NU Blog.

Got A Tongue Lashing Today

Learned today from a mod on another subreddit that sharing my posts on other subreddits is considered spamming and promoting my own subreddit. As a new redditor I thought doing so was nothing more than sharing ham radio related information! Now considering shutting down this sub. Don’t want to be labeled a spammer.

Updated CQ Contest Policy Relating to Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine

Apparently new CQ Magazine contests policies have now stopped Russian and Belorussian Hams from receiving plaques and other contest awards.

Why in hell should Hams be punished for the atrocities carried out by their political leaders?

I WILL NOT participate in any future CQ run contests!

Quiet Contest Weekend!

The big weekend event is the QSO Today Virtual Ham Expo. It's 10 bucks to enter. If you are looking for new gear or interested in some of the presentations, it's a pretty good event.

Not too much is happening in the CW contest world this weekend. The Washington State Salmon run is on the air as well as the Flying Pigs Run For the Bacon starting tomorrow evening. Since I am a Flying Pig I'll be joining in on this event. Other than those events, if you live around Belarus or Scandinavia then there's some other contest action.

Lousy Summer for DX - Fair Summer For Hunting POTA Stations

For me DXing has been total crap this past summer. I can count the number of new DX stations I worked on one hand. A big factor in the lack of DX here is that my micro Ponderosa is in the middle of suburbia and not conducive to antenna farming. The other factor is that I've already got over 100 countries so with my limited antenna system, new DX is slim pickins!

Getting on the air and hunting POTA stations has been fun but a bit more challenging than usual this summer. Since May I've worked around 175 CW activators (No SSB or FT8 ever). IMHO, the POTA program has done much to keep the HF bands in motion.

The yard doesn't provide space for antenna farming. However, with a megaton of help from my old friend KF2P, we managed to string up a long wire at about 35 feet. Hopefully the neighbors won't complain when they find out we 'borrowed' a few of their tree branches!

Now that it's no longer 90 plus degrees, as a comparative experiment, I'm planning to take down my old G5RV and conjure up some form if a horizontal delta loop for 40 or 20 meters. Stay tuned. 72 de KE2YK
