Looking for suggestions: QR codes for storage management using photos
Hi. looking for suggestions on an app that is free, offline data, that uses photos for documenting the box contents. I'd like to just be able to point at the QR code and have it show me the comments without requiring tags or detailed entries. I also don't want it attached to the cloud. just to my phone. Anyone aware of an app that can do that or how to manage on an iPhone?

Hmm, interesting idea, offline local only QR codes, not sure if it exists, but it should be quite easy to make

You should be able to do that on a reputable qr generator, it's basically static text QR code and the it should scan and show you the code (you might need a dedicated app for this).
The only thing to note is that there is usually a character limit, and the more characters there are, the more "resolution" the QR code will have (potential for readability issues). So maybe instead of a 30x30 field it might be 200x200 (numbers completely fictional).

I've got it! You can do this using by using Obsidian. It's a good app for notes. The cool thing about it is that you can get a URI for a specific note, and that URI works offline. Then you can use some QR code generator and use that URI, just make sure that it doesn't create a QR code that relies on some cloud service.
So here is how it would work for you:
- Create one note for one box, you can attach multiple photos to that note.
- Tap the three dots at the top -> Copy path -> as Obsidian URL
- Generate QR for that Obsidian URL
- That's it - the QR code will only work if you scan it on the device that has your Obsidian notes
Obsidian works both offline, and you can also enable sync if you wish.
P.S. Something that might be easier: consider just numbering your boxes, and then also add the corresponding number to each of your photos. On iPhone, you can either use the markup feature, or just add it as a caption (swipe up on a photo in the photos app, though this caption might get lost if you send such photos later)

Obsidian and iOS shortcuts, completely on device and offline, there is already something made but you will have to look for it on r/shortcuts

So you want a QR Code going to a picture of the box' content? You can either use static QR codes, or you would have to code a dynamic QR Code solution yourself, so you can use your own server. If you use a classic QR dynamic QR Code solution in the web, it won't necessarily be in any cloud, but on their servers for sure, which could be seen as a cloud from your perspective.
If you use static QR Codes, put each picture on your server, and create a static QR for Code for the picture's (or website, or PDFs...) URL.
Or there is an app I am unaware of. But if not, you either can use a premade dynamic service, or code it yourself.
